Honestly, the most important parts of a lecture should be memorable. I remember maybe 1 thing from lectures, and it was because someone else asked a question

I used to take very in-depth notes for every class. I remember most of the other students noting down most of what was on the board, maybe not all of it though. Then, I remember a few kids who barely ever took notes (or took none at all), they must have known everything about the course, or just not cared.

In my first semester I was a note freak and would write two lines per line in tiny print, for some reason. It kinda helped I guess, but those notes would just be kind of funny now or even depressing

What? Why would you need to scan college notes?

I just typed them up in lectures and used to sell them afterwards. The fact that our professors used minimalistic slides to try to encourage people to actually turn up really helped me with that.

I took meticulous notes from textbooks/other readings, so when it came time for lectures I spent my time and energy on listening and engaging.

I just drew during class, watched a couple of YouTube videos to go over the concepts from the lessons and then crammed on the bus ride to school on the day of tests

Wow, professors using minimalistic slides?! My god, that's brilliant!

In my day many of the professors would convolute everything and make it as complicated and un-understandable as possible. I'm not sure why, but I think they seemed to think that you needed to prove yourself through semi-torturous studying and learning a bunch of stuff that you'd never use.

You still havent answered the why? question yet.

I have a Bachelors but I see no reason to scan notes from a decade ago

Scanners were more of a luxury or business item when I was in college. Hell, cell phones were only moderately common and only newer ones had color screens. I think windows XP was new at the time.

I finished college 12 years ago but I kept everything and have been moving it around from place to place. Finally got it down to one storage bin. About to move again and I don't even want to move the one bin this time but have some texts I don't want to get rid of either.

The idea of digitizing everything just kinda randomly got introduced to me this week by one of those Pocket articles on Firefox. Think I will actually go this route.

Q1: Why is digitizing your college notes important?
A1: For a few reasons:
1) the ease of sharing
2) the ease of accessing, editing, & studying
3) the size (a digital storage device or online cloud storage)
-it gets it into a smaller form (10,000 notebook page scan image files (from ~100 notebooks) could fit onto a 16GB USB flash drive (~$10 at walmart))
-this means you could get all of your college notebooks compressed onto a tiny digital storage device
-this would allow you to store all of your college notes in a better form for; transporting, keeping secure, & keeping germ-free

Q2: How long would it take?
A2: ~1 month for 10,000 pages (at 1 page/min & 6 hours/day)
(Additional Note: For 2 years into a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering (from my personal notebook count), I had ~8,000 notebook pages & ~90 notebooks.)

Q3: How could this be used to benefit others?
A3: If enough students who have learned higher education material got together a group & organized the material they learned into a more simplified and easy-to-learn form, they could make much of that higher education more easily learnable. Textbooks can be great, but they can also be fairly difficult to learn directly from if they are not organized or simplified very well. For people who are already knowledgeable about a subject, all they would have to do would be to organize & summarize the material, then present it in a very easy-to-learn form (cutting out any unnecessary or convoluted information).

Q4: How could this be used to benefit yourself?
A4: It would allow for an ease of:
-accessing, editing, & studying
-transporting, keeping secure, & keeping germ-free

Q5: Why is higher education important?
A5: It can be used to benefit society &/or yourself in various ways.

Q6: Why is reviewing information from certain fields (science, technology, engineering, medicine, etc.) important?
A6: The information from these fields can be quite lengthy, complex, hard to learn, & hard to remember. Reviewing this information can help to refresh people's memories & can help to benefit their career projects.

Q7: Why is information from certain fields (science, technology, engineering, medicine, etc.) important?
A7: The information from these fields can very beneficial by aiding in the effort to create things or ways of doing things that increase people's quality of life &/or help the less fortunate.
