So you see some weird stuff surveying out in the desert. Bodies are not too uncommon, other crime scenes too, you know the drill. I once found a severed head in a bag stuffed into a crevice in the mouth of a cave. Boy that was a fun day.

Sometimes though you get just plain ol paranormal stuff. Walking into a box canyon and being overcome by dread, you see coyote fur, tracks, and footprints. Or when you see people walking alone far away, but if you try to get closer to them the second you take your eyes off them they disappear. Apparently the Navajo have stories about people like that going all the way back.

I was once doing a drone survey of some canyon lands, I had to climb up to the top of the mesa to launch from, and it was a nasty little climb. I set my drone up on the like one flat spot up there but couldn't get the bastard to take off. Everything seemed fine, but for whatever reason it just wouldn't engage the engines. Spent a good 15 minutes fucking with the thing when all the sudden I hear something behind me. Out of nowhere there's this little old Navajo guy walking up on me. We get to talking and he's going on and on about the history of this little valley. Telling who used to live where and all that. This is pretty normal when landowners see you out surveying, they either try to run you off or talk to you for as long as you'll let em. Anyway as he's going on he sees me trying to take the drone off and he just says "There's a Bad Man buried under that rock." And I just remember the way he pronounced Bad Man too, you could hear the capital letters. He told me that he had done bad magic and that his brother killed him and buried him up here. And I'm just thinking oh great my drone is haunted now. So after another 10 minutes of chatting he says he has to get going and says goodbye. By this time I've taken his advice and moved the drone down to a different part of the mesa and first try it takes off like a charm. Hooray. So now I've got a few minutes to spare and I get to thinking just where the hell did buddy come from and why didn't I hear him climbing up here. I pause the drone for a second and use it to look all around. There is not a goddamn soul for miles. No vehicles, no people. There is however a coyote running away from the bottom of the mesa.
