i thought in ME1 you stopping soveign stopped them? like he was supposed to go "hey guys, waters fine, come on in and harvest all life!"

but then in ME2, the collectors are making a reaper.. but who told them to? i thought all the reapers were asleep or some shit

but then in ME3, they're just here. huh? why? who called them?

is it going to be explained or did bioware run out of ideas?

The Reapers arrived at the end of the Mass Effect 2 DLC "Arrival"

You blow up the Mass Relay in Batarian space, killing over 300,000 Batarians in a nearby colony to slow down the Reaper Advance.

By doing this Shepard is arrested for being a war criminal .... Despite being a spectre.... And goes to military prison pending a trial.

This is where Mass Effect 3 starts

Months later Shepard has been in prison, sucking his/her toes. The trial never occurs (Which fucking sucks) because the Reapers killed all the Batarians so no one cares anymore. now they are attacking Earth.

The big questions are

1. Why was Shepard cool with doing fuck all for months as the Reapers approached?
2. What happened to the entire ME1 plot of the Reapers using the Citadel to control all of the relays?

They literally just forgot about that second bit

Arrival was the most important part of ME2, not exactly TCs fault for not knowing that considering ME1s DLC wasnt exactly vital. And didnt ME2 have like 4 DLCs total? (cant remember, just remember LotSB being top tier)

ME2's DLC is pretty important.

Overlord isn't. It's a self contained story.

But Arrival and Lair of Shadow Broker are important. (Lair is really good DLC btw)

I'd suggest going back to ME2 and playing those.

Because the Keepers are essential to operating the Citadel and keeping it running smoothly.

The Citadel is actually a giant relay meant to bring the Reapers in from deep space and strike the killing blow at the very beginning of the invasion. Sovereign was a Reaper vanguard whose purpose was to open the Citadel relay and let the others in. Sovereign was stopped, so the Reapers had to make the journey to the Milky Way manually instead.

The Collectors are actually the Protheans, repurposed as servants by the Reapers. They're building a human Reaper because that's how Reapers reproduce, and they've targetted humanity specifically because Shepard caught their interest after the actions of the first game. Harbinger is the head Reaper, and is in charge of the Collectors. He controls them via the Collector General, who is the insect dude they show in cutscenes and who dies at the end of ME2. Harbinger is still alive and very angry with Shepard.

In ME3, they've finally gotten to the Milky Way after having been forced to travel there manually because they couldn't get in via the Citadel.

You can't.

Keepers reproduce themselves if one is destroyed. There's no way to kill them all without blowing up the entie citadel.

Yup

Once you reach 1 relay, you can teleport across the entire galaxy

All Shepard did by blowing up a relay was buy a few months before the Reapers flew at FTL speed to the next nearest Relay.
