If you're not reading at least one book in an entire 2 months of free time, you have an issue.

I mean, you don't have to, unless it's required for school.

Depends on the individual. If they assign fiction but a student prefers reading non-fiction, can't blame them for despising the task.

I remember the summer before my senior year of high school, I was supposed to read Frankenstein. I actually have a pretty high interest in literature but I just didn't feel like reading it. >_>

Funny enough, I'm finally reading it now. I actually really like it so far, though I'm not very far.
Frankenstein owns.
I feel like making it an assignment just makes reading seem like work though.

Yeah shit like that completely turned me off from reading.

Never really got back into it until like four years after graduating from high school.

Summer reading was only a chore when it was a school assignment.

I read a lot as a kid. Fiction and science books. I was very competitive, especially during school and summer readings.. Tried to get to 1000 pages first or th e top prize during summer reading programs for kids. But It reduced drastically as I got older into later high school years and graduation, to the point I'd just try to read it during summer in college. And after getting my bachelors nearly 10 years ago, it was really hard for me to get back into it. Part of it was school text books, but also I think smart phones and technology really fucked it up for me. There's so much distractions, especially with social media.

I want to get back to it.But when I try its hard for me to finish. I get bored easily. I actually had a book for a whole year from the library. I never finished it and just turned it in like 2 months ago.

I still read, but its internet articles and message boards.

I read voraciously as a kid. I never really liked reading many of the required books from school though.
