He actually got off pretty light. He could've gotten a 112k fine but Verizon didn't decide to press charges and he only got suspended for 5 days.
He got off because Verizon showed Mercy.

That's not a situation you want to be in.

I have 100 WPM on a keyboard and like 20 on a touchscreen.
I'm 81 WPM on KB, 9 on TouchScreen.

So, yeah, KB for me.

That's not bad. But there is also the factor of being familiar with something. I got really familiar with my iphone 5 and could get around 60 WPM on it but Apple started making decisions I didn't like so I ditched them for Android and now I'm at 10 WPM.
On my Android, I swipe between keys instead of hitting each buttons individually.

So it gives the feeling of writting in cursive, but on a On-Screen KB.

Still it doesn't compare to a proper KB for serious typing.

What's your preferred Word Processor?

I grew up on MS Word, but one of these days, I wanna try out Word Perfect.

I've always heard many stories about Word Perfect from Corel, but never really tried it.

It's cheap enough, so it's not a $ issue.

It's just a matter of finding time to mess around with it.

Damn, I could never do that. That would mess up my rhythm so bad, especially with the backspace, a key I use a lot, being off to the side. I usually just use the latest MS Word but I recently I didn't want to renew it so I've been using a "discounted" Word 2010, which in some places, is actually a bit easier to use. Also Google Docs if I just want to share a document quick online.
I tried two thumb & multi finger typing and I kept hitting the wrong keys WAAAYYY TOO often.

I find swiping between the letters like you're writing in cursive to be more intuitive for me and more accurate.

The main problem is that a SmartPhone screen is just too tiny for the fast finger typing that I'm normally accustomed on a regular sized KeyBoard.

And I prefer cursive over printing, so swiping between keys works out better for me since it flows.

YMMV, since everybody is more accustomed to different things.

Obviously Typing on a full-sized KB is superior to anything on a SmartPhone short of busting out a Full Sized KB and attaching it.

But at that point, you might as well go back to a real PC and use a full sized KB.

Was this topic about upskirting at one point? Seems like it's about cell phones and WPM now.

Why not just change the school uniforms to something other than skirts. Doubling up is fucking stupid.

UK and their weirdass dress codes for school.

Yes, exactly. It's a lot easier to hit wrong keys on a touchscreen. The swiping method does help a bit. I've tried it but if I mess up with it it takes even longer to correct it than if I just used my thumbs to hit the backspace for any misclicks so it takes up more time overall. But that's just my experience of course.
As you said, everyone is accustomed to different things and everyone has their different way that works for them better. Another method I've seen a lot of people do is use a stylus for their tablet where they make strokes as if they're simply writing with a pencil. That doesn't work for me at all but those people are likely used to that and faster than me.

I'll admit, swiping wasn't a natural thing at first, it took me a month to adjust; but once you adjust and figure it out, it's really nice. Especially now that Google KeyBoard has really good and fast auto predict and correct.

The amount of times I get things wrong and have to individually type out the word, is once in a blue moon.

The stylus is really good for when the screen has too much crap in a small area and your finger is just too fat to accurately hit things.

My mom really likes the stylus that she has in her motorola Android phone.

My parents like writing chinese characters with their fingers since it's like old school writing with calligraphy, but your finger is the brush and predictive text figures out the rest and gives you the closest choice for which character you think it is.

And if some idiot out there tells you that you don't need high DPI screens, they obviously have never worked with pictographic languages like chinese where the smallest stroke can mean a different word, ergo getting that to render correctly and accurately is critical. High DPI is crucial to making sure you can read that text correctly and not assume what it is.

That's why I think Capri's for everybody makes the most sense.

Everybody can wear Capri's.

Look at how cool Raphael Nadel looks after winning a tournament and rocking his Capri's.

His Capri's needs to be a little longer to be exactly 1/2 way between his knees & ankle, but that's a fitment issue.

Yeah, I've tried it along as one of the different methods for a few months but I just couldn't get it to work out for me. If it works better for you that's good though. After all, different strokes (lol) for different folks.
If you can manage to type on a touch screen with a reasonable amount of speed, more power to you.

I can't do it without fat fingering multiple keys or having to slow down for precision.

My parents just use the old-fashioned Romanized keyboard for characters. A stylus is likely more efficient but they've never used a stylus in their life (I've at least used a DS before) so they can't get that to work for them.
I had my parents skip the KB for typing Chinese characters.

Straight up finger caligraphy =D with direct hand writing recognition via Google Chinese Inputs.

If your parents type chinese characters, have them try direct hand writing with their fingers.

Most older folks can get used to it pretty quickly since it's like writing with a brush for calligraphy or with a pen.

Auto Character evaluation will automatically bring up a list of similar characters and they can pick which one is the intended character.

It works pretty well IMO and is reasonably fast.

It's all about familiarity. I've spent so many years typing on my old ipods and iphones that I can type on a touch screen with a reasonable amount of speed. Now that I'm on Android with a different shape and size and different key placements it completely messes me up. But my finger muscle memory still keeps the touch screen typing memory so I'm slowly getting back to where I was.
Google Keyboard is really solid, there's plenty of customization for it, but not so much that it becomes over whelming.

SerperiorThanU posted...
You're absolutely right. But I should mention my parents still use iphones with tiny screens compared to androids so calligraphy doesn't work well because of that too. But since voice commands are also getting more popular they're looking forward to move on to that since their hand muscles aren't like they used to be.
Have you thought of moving your parents to androids with big screens?

Or get the iPhone with the largest screens?

My parents eyes aren't getting any better and I have the text set to largest possible to make it easier to read for them.

And Google Keyboard + Chinese input is really good for what it is.

The reason we use iphones is because my dad's business gives it to us. I'm the only one using an Android because I went out of my way to buy one. Since his job comes with free iphones my parents don't want to waste that opportunity. As with me, they've also been using it since the beginning and have gotten too accustomed to it to want to move on. Unfortunately, the iphones he gets aren't the ones with the biggest screens.
Next time they upgrade, insist on the one with the biggest screens.

While outlawing smart phones ect may soften the blow, we are not doing enough.

Mandatory kindergarten for 5 year olds is my recommendation with emphasis on teaching boys to talk to girls. Ten years old is too late to stop cyberbullying without electroshock collars. With 5 year olds the brain is still forming pleasure/avoidance responses.
