Microsoft's E3 for example, despite having so many games, fell flat to me because they were overwhelmingly cg trailers for stuff. I always appreciate how Nintendo is the inverse of that where 90% of the stuff they show is gameplay and the other 10% is cg stuff.

Gaming companies realized in what, 2013, that they don't need to show any gameplay, a good cinematic trailer of stuff that never appears in the final game is all they need to get people to slurp it up.

The last game that fooled me was Watchdogs. I was lucky enough to cancel my preorder before that game came out, but yeah. I don't use E3 as a metric to how a game will be on release, merely that the game exists.

I cant imagine getting hyped for a game after watching a CG trailer with no gameplay.

Its baffling why they keep doing this it's a complete disconnect from reality. The game could look and play nothing like the trailer so what's the point.

I think I'm more forgiving if it's a sequel to a known thing. Otherwise if it's something like that vampire game by Arkane, I don't have a clue what it actually plays like

This is the same industry that rushes to release a game by a certain date, even if it means doubling the size of the game with day 1 patches. Wanna play the game on release day? Lmao good luck.

And even then, the game is incomplete and needs to be finished via patches... Or dlc. Or both.
