Literally go to Walmart and buy the cheapest one. Make sure to google how much the cartridges costs also.

Edit: they are 30-40 bucks at walmart.

i've got a brother mfc-9130cw that i got on sale years ago and have loved ever since. toner seems to last for ever, literlly changed the black toner for the first time today, and you can get off brand toner for relatively cheap.

nice.

another thing I'm afraid of is ink cartridges being rejected for being off-brand or "out of date" .

well my brother printer is older and apparently doesn't have a cartridge DRM system in place. i had an ink jet printer years ago that pulled that shit, and between that and the fact that ink jet ink dries up if unused helped me decide to throw the damn thing away.

before you buy a printer i'd check online to see if the model has cartridge DRM.

I want a new printer, but looking at new ones it's a huge turn off that they require you install a phoneapp or it's wifi only.

I have a Brother MFC-J491DW. Pretty cheap (under US$100), and generic inks are available for basically spare change. And it even has a document feeder on the scanner. It's an inkjet, not a laser, but again - the inks are cheap enough that it's not an issue.

I pretty much avoid any brands that aren't Brother. Epson would be okay but they only seem to sell expensive models here these days. HP ink tends to be ripoff prices even with generics, while Canons tend to be quite tempermental unless used via USB in my experience.

HP Color LaserJet Pro M182nw Wireless All-in-One

I use this. No app required. Scanner. Print by cable or through your wifi. Was easy to set up, and Ive had zero issues with it. Toner is expensive but lasts way longer. I am never going back to ink, those printers are a fucking scam and always had constant issues.

It was light night and day going from one $69-99 ink printer after another, dealing with troubleshooting, throwing cartridges at it, etc to this. Yeah it was pricey but to me, really worth it to have a quality printer that pops out color pages with out skipping a beat whether I print from my PC or phone.
