Anyway movie was not half bad. Kinda reminded me of Barbershop 3 in terms of sequel that comes over a decade later, and is actually alright.

However, the father-son angle kinda reminded me of 2019's Shaft. Not that I watched that movie, I just read the synopsis (really wished it was good enough to watch though, I actually loved 2000 Shaft)

Lol they literally had a joke about him in retirement "sitting on his fat ass" and i guess that's pretty much what happened.

tbf in modern day he'd be normal weight due to the overall rampant obesity everywhere XD ... (actually really really sad)

I was a bit let down by it, but mpstly because I enjoyed the first 2 so much that I overhyped it for myself. It kinda reminded me of Lethal Weapon 4 with the aging angle, but the dynamoc between the 2 character just didn't age as well for Smith/Lawrence as it did for Glover/Gibson imo. Still liked it and had some great action, but it fell pretty short of the first 2 for me.

Also realized the father-son angle is their way of doing a sequel hook or reboot for "the new generation" that's been tried so many times now with action movies.

I like how with Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible, Jeremy Renner was meant to be the next "it" action star and replace him and Tom Cruise was like "nah, fuck that" and (as a 50 year old) continued to do badass stunts and basically make the latter 3 MI movies 10 times better than the first 3 MI movies ever were.

You were looking forward to it? Most of the "decades later" sequels are always terrible, especially all those TV show revivals, so I always go in with low expectations.

I don't think anything compares to the Riggs/Murtaugh dynamic though, you literally grow up with those characters and see them get married, lose loved ones, gain new ones, have kids, it's an emotionally journey from the first movie all the way to the 6th
