Two, lmao. Ones an old fashioned rice cooker (3c capacity) with the weighted bottom, the other is timer based and doubles as a crockpot (8c capacity).

Boil in a bag rice is trash, and making it in the pot/microwave is suboptimal. Just add rice, fill water to line, and walk away.

Instant pots are great. Throw a bunch of shit in there, wait 20 minutes, receive a bunch of delicious cooked shit.

They also can be used as steamers for veggies and/or dumplings. Most of them come with a small, perforated tray; place whatever you're steamin' on it, add water to the bottom, and you're good to go. One can get a steam tray for their stovetop pot too, model pending.

I had one for a long time and it was great, but I "upgraded" to a crappy one and just went back to cooking it in a regular pot. I have an instant pot but the only kind of rice I've ever cooked in it was brown rice, once, and I don't care enough for it to make that a regular thing.

No, because I usually toast my rice before I cook it and doing that and then putting it in a rice cooker is just like, what's the point when I've already got it in a pan

I've lived with people who had them and I've only felt the need to use it a handful of times. Imo it's only useful if you are making a big complicated dinner (with rice) and don't want to put any more effort into making it the rice itself

Stove top is easy enough. Plus can toast rice before adding water.

Specific rice cookers just take up space and the main convenience is how it turns off when done.

Not at the moment. I might get one if I come across one that's free of PTFE / PFOA, but I have basically zero tolerance for bringing anything that contains those into the house (unless it's something that doesn't get heated at all, eg. dental floss) because of the risk they pose to my birds, and unfortunately, 99% of cookware (other than stainless steel pots / pans) contains one or the other.

From what I've heard you don't have to go through the burden of adding oil to the rice to prevent it from sticking.

Frees up a stove element, uses less power, specifically tailored for rice, usually will have a timer (or sensor) to tell when it's cooked, etc. Also they tend to be coated with non-stick surfaces, unlike many regular pots, which is very helpful with rice (but as noted above, very bad if you have pet birds).

Still more hassle than those rice pouches you can just shove in the microwave, but then those cost a lot more than dry rice...

People use oil when cooking rice? Neat, I should give that a try.
