I feel Nynaeve becomes a lot better in book 7 or 8. But that may be because Elayne becomes the worst character to ever exist in all of literary fiction. Second being her brother.

Sounds like you may be annoyed by unreliable narrators. Mat and Nynaeve are great at lying to themselves about their motivations and values.

A few times I've tried to read all of these and the farthest I've made it is book 4 or so. I really need to not think that I have to start the whole series over whenever I give it another ago.
