Yes. The panic peaked way too early and too hard and I'm not prone to believing conspiracy theories. By the time the date was close, the panic had died down and the only people still talking about it were tin foil hat types and people talking about stuff being updated so nothing would happen.

you realise that there was little impact of y2k due to the panic right? tons of developers worldwide were hired to rewrite code so it wouldnt break. its wasnt anywhere close to a "conspiracy theory"

No but that doesn't mean nothing bad would happen.

Did I think we would have world-ending catastrophe like the most panicked emails said? No. But I did think there might be problems and headaches as we went into the new millennium.

Here's a list of a few: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Year_2000_problem#Documented_errors

The worst seems to be:

In Sheffield, United Kingdom, incorrect risk assessments for Down syndrome were sent to 154 pregnant women and two abortions were carried out as a direct result of a Y2K bug causing miscalculation of the mothers' age. Four babies with Down syndrome were also born to mothers who had been told they were in the low-risk group.

I also remember reading about pension calculations that were affected years before 2000, possibly as early as the 80s.

That's despite over $300 billion being spent on Y2K remediation worldwide.

it also caused a malfunction at a nuclear plant, although thankfully that didnt end in a disaster

If you post an @ to someone, you can click on it, but if they have notifications shut off or have a low user level (warned, suspended etc.) or the username is invalid, you can't. It can be highlighted but not clicked on. Test it out for yourself. You can see I'm not warned etc and my username is valid. Try typing in a username that doesn't exist. Try @ ing yourself. Try @ ing me. See what happens. You might learn something, if you are capable of that, which given your shittalking here and anti vaxx q anon stances, is debatable.

Anyone else can test the @ feature this way too.

I was 17 and I still don't know if it was legit or total nonsense but I assume it was a bit of both.

I didnt care enough then and its irrelevant now, but at the very least I'm sure the media portrayal of what could happen was stupidly sensationalized.

It was ridiculous at the time new wise, but I don't remember anyone irl actually worrying.

Any claims of planes falling out of the sky or similar were obviously nonsense, but theres been examples posted itt where there were real and disastrous consequences.

its not entirely irrelevant today, we will have a similar problem in 2038 iirc, although not to the extent of y2k.
