I don't understand why this has ever been a serious conversation. The bar for something to be considered art is not very high, and even if it were games are definitely an artistic expession.

Yes.

Basically everything is art. It's not some grand accomplishment or something that requires deep meaning or thought. A trash can's design is art. But even getting away from that, if you want a more "strict" definition of art, video games would still 100% be art. Movies are an art form, television, plays, books, paintings. The only half way decent argument is the "well they contain elements of art, but aren't art themselves", but that's just some goalpost moving bullshit.
