Not that the average person (queer or straight) won't occasionally drop an "LGBT", but most people understand it's at least LGBTQ and usually LGBTQ+ or LGBTQIA+.

It's like, the community wants "LGBTQ+" as a minimum, and never refers to itself as "LGBT" in the last decade.

Just saw this from the creator of FNAF talking about how great of an ally he is, how much he voted for Trump (who also refused to say anything besides "LGBT"), and how much he cares about his "LGBT" fans.

You'd think that these wackos love "Q" so much they'd be all about it.

But no.

They want all the Q to themselves.

I will admit that the addition of I and A is getting tiresome. When will it stop? I am 100% supportive but rule #1 of acronyms is to make them succinct and memorable.

I agree that "I" and "A" are tiresome additions.

But "queer" is obviously needed, and "+" includes anyone else who wants to be included.

I'm gay and I have never in my life said more than "LGBT" if I'm using the acronym. Never heard my husband, our gay roommate, or any other friends (LGBT or otherwise) say "LGBTQIA+."

If I'm speaking I'll normally just use "LGBT"

If I'm typing, I'll try to use "LGBT+"

But sometimes I'll also say "queer community"

L, G, B, and T seem like the only ones that everybody consistently agrees on. Amnesty International uses LGBTI, no Q or A or +. ACLU and HRC use LGBTQ, but no I, A or +. GLAAD and PFLAG both have LGBTQ and LGBTQ+ at different places on their front pages. IGLYO uses LGBTQI.

What does the I stand for?

I say "LGBTQ" out loud, and type LGBTQ+. Sometimes in the past I would type "LGBTQIA+" or say "LGBTQIA."

Also, there is a reason people make jokes about the "LGGG" community. Maybe listen to others outside your bubble.

Oh and then there are the "you can change if you pray" religious types, they like to call us "INDIVIDUALS WHO STRUGGLE WITH HOMOSEXUAL ATTRACTIONS" or "GAY-IDENTIFIED INDIVIDUALS" because they don't want to grant us our identity or acknowledge that it's an innate part of who we are

Can I ask exactly how aromantic works? Someone who is not into romance but may or may not be into sex? So if aromantic but still into sex sounds like the cliche of bros and frat boys. That is like the opposite of the community.

I have noticed people in the community usually include at least the Q now that you mention it. Not that I say it much, but I could stand to add it in if it's that important.

BTW when used in this fashion it is not a pejorative term. The community has been working to reclaim the word Queer for a few decades now.

What?

I know a few people who went their whole lives not having a word that can describe who they are and how they feel. And as time went by these descriptive words entered the mainstream and they feel a lot better 1) knowing there's something they can use to describe themselves and 2) knowing there are enough others like them that such a word exists now.
