She is the mom that with her husband, killed her young son and teen daughter because "they were zombies and they had to die so the world wouldn't end"

She is being evaluated at a ward for no more than 90 days. She didnt dodge prison

Psychiatric care is not dodging prison. God I hate that talking point, it's based entirely on ignorance.

If she's in psychiatric care, there's a good reason. If she was having an actual episode, she shouldn't be going to jail. She doesn't meet the legal requirements for guilt. She should be given psychiatric care.

She doesn't dodge prison. If it's determined she's not guilty by insanity, she'll still be institutionalized in the psychiatric facility for the same amount of time if not more. These institutions are some of the darkest shit ever.

People who think the insanity defense will make them get less sentencing or whatever are ignorant.

I don't understand how you raise a child for 16 years and then come to the conclusion that they're a zombie.

Seems like people that mentally unstable would not be able to make it that far.

Depends on the crime actually. Insanity does not help much with murder since even if it's accepted it's simultaneously an admission that you're uncontrollably murderous.

Unfortunately mental illness is not a level road, there are dips and peaks. I vividly remember helping a friend with bi polar through a breakdown, she was yelling at people about how she was pregnant and hey baby was being targeted by government satellites. This person is now a legislative assistant for an Oregon senator, and has never had another such episode that I've seen.

No need to punish someone if they have no capacity to understand what they did, just take them out of society since they're not fit to be in it
