she was trying to comply, had her hazards on, was trying to get to a safer area, but within 2 minutes the cop decides she was trying to flee and rams into the side of her car, causing it to flip.

That last paragraph, that he's immune under Arkansas law? Yeah. That's why you can't reform the police, even if you kicked out ever officer and banned all current and former officers from ever serving again in a police role.

This officer should be serving several consecutive life sentences since he unnecessarily intensified the situation by immediately going for lethal force on a pregnant woman and unborn child.

I'm disgusted. Especially since there's plenty of people who will defend him.

And the supreme court has ruled that you can't perform a PIT on someone who is not a risk to the public, so their policy doesn't matter.

Yeah completely the cops fault for not knowing the woman was pregnant. Damn him for not being there when she was getting knocked up.

I've been to Arkansas to visit my wife's parents.
My mind hasn't changed, I still hate Arkansas and her parents. But I do remember there isn't anywhere safe to park because everywhere is in the middle of nowhere.

She should have pulled over sooner.

Oh, fuck off with this bullshit. She had her hazards on, which indicated that she was looking for a safe place to stop. He made the situation a thousand times worse by doing something he knows couldve killed them.

Fuck off. Even if she wasnt pregnant the cop is still in the wrong. Arkansas law says to put your hazards on, move over and find a safe place to stop. The shoulder wasnt safe. This cop didnt know the law. He fucked up. So fuck off with this should have stopped sooner bull shit. She was following the law. He wasnt.

If your response, like this cop's, is to ram a car and flip it because it doesn't pull over fast enough and potentially kill the people inside, then you're as much of a psychopath as the criminals who get put away for murder.

Having your first instinct to kill in situations like these is predatory and evil. This cop deserves the worst.

This is from the Arkansas Police Facebook, from June 5th
"IF you see blue lights behind you, and you feel scared that it is not a real police officer OR you would like to drive to a safe or lighted location: first SLOW DOWN, and turn on your hazard lights - this will let the officer know you see them. Move to the farthest right lane, and continue to drive to a location where you feel safe (ex. under a street light, a gas station, an exit ramp, or side road). If you do not believe that the vehicle behind you is a real police officer, immediately call 911. You will NOT BE charged with fleeing if you are doing these things. You have the right to be safe!!!"

This is true, they're basically Batman and in the movie Batman ran over cars and did things that killed people but he did what he had to do and thats what cops are like and I saw it in a movie so thats how it should be irl. This cop did the same thing Batman would have done

Yeah, a bit hasty...
I can fully understand why he got into position to perform it in case she tried something, but they were about a mile from an exit and not doing anything extreme. Pretty sure that's a tip/advice I've seen as well, if you feel unsafe/uncomfortable then find a lit area like a parking lot to pull over.

EXPLAIN MYSELF! Sorry, I had to.

I just said I can understand why he got into that position pre-emptively if he had to perform the PIT. If the occupants of the vehicle started acting super dodgy/hostile like pulling out a weapon or driving unpredictibly then you're already mostly lined up. It also gives slightly better view of what the driver is doing. I didn't say he should have actually performed it, especially 1 mile from the exit and nothing eratic/suspicious.

That's still like saying it's OK for a cop to pull a gun if they tell someone to stop and they keep walking. You're skipping a whole bunch of steps and needlessly, dangerously escalating the situation.

The cop was clearly wrong here and should be disciplined.

That maneuver is used to disable a vehicle not kill the driver. It was unnecessary here and shouldnt have been used but I dont know how you get to him trying to kill her.

That move could have killed her or the fetus. If it was necessary that would be the fault of the drivers fleeing so if they died it would be fair, as morbid and terrible as that is to say, but this woman wasnt fleeing. She did everything by the book and was still subjected to this maneuver. If she died or her fetus was injured its 100% the fault of the cop and if that happened manslaughter would definitely be on the table.

It's considered deadly force because it can easily seriously maim or kill the driver.

Shoulders are safe they're literally made for emergency stopping like if you have a flat tire or something. I've also stopped in unsafe places before and the cop comes up and says "drive to this place and stop there"

Legally the cop is in the wrong though. You're not supposed to put people who aren't fleeing. Especially on the fucking highway.

I mean the shoulder is supposed to be safe, but looking at the video it does look shallow. Ive also been in situations where the cop said to take the exit and park elsewhere. Thats what this one should have done. And if he had a brain he would have. This woman did everything by the book. She didnt feel comfortable stopping at the shoulder so she turned the hazards on, slowed down and was going to take the exit. Nothing wrong with what she did at all.

that is definitely not always true. this one looks like it is maybe exactly one lane, but i wouldn't be surprised if it is actually a foot or two narrower. no guarantees she'd be able to get completely off the road, and the officer would 100% be ticketing her while standing in the righthand lane.

Thats not true, i had a flat and pulled to a shoulder where my car barely fit in the lane. I was too far from the exit to drive on the flat and my AAA guy had to call a tow truck just to get my car off the freeway because the shoulder was so shitty.

and i drive a civic and not some huge car

He was basically in the next lane over. I guess everyone on multi-lane roadways that are diagonal to others are dangers to society. Ever have a vehicle to your 7-8 o'clock while traveling on the interstate/highway? Probably had numerous ones. You're lucky you're alive.

That positon was fine until he temporarily became a remora. Again, anyone could do it, just because it's police it doesn't equate to drawing a gun.
