Twice Elected Democrat, Sheriff Chip Shuler has SWITCHED his allegiance to the Republicans because of the relentless calls for "Defund the Police" from Democrats!!

He announced he was quitting the party he normally represented saying it had been "difficult to watch his deputies" trying to work during the "unprecedented assault" on their profession

Chip says his deputies work ahrd to serve and protect the citizens of Smyth County and he can't bare to watch his men and women try to move forward when people keep attacking them and sa they remain in an honourable profession and should nto be judged by the bad acts of a few

However, he did indicate "I have always been a CONSERVATIVE throughout my law enforcement career of 38 years which has made my switch all the more easier"

He is the 3rd to switch allegiances after last year, Sheriff Brian Hieatt of Tazewell County and Sheriff John McClanahan of the Buchanan County also quit Democrats

Shuler says he was welcomed with open arms by the Virginia GOP who now share the same values he valued througout his life

Republican chairman, Adam Tolbert said "I congratulate Sheriff Shuler on taking this bold move to leave the Democratic Party and join the Republican Party. We are thrilled to have him as a member of the Republican Party"

Hieatt told Fox News "When we hear talks about defund the police, take away resources, the bottom line is, you get what you pay for and that's with any profession. So if you take away money and have to pay bottom dollar for certain for all the service and not have the resources to properly train, not have the money to properly test all the new applicants and new people coming in, then you're not goin to get the best. If you want better people in law enforcement, then tehre need to be more funding to be able to do more testing. When we arrest somebody, when we convict somebody, there's been a victim of a crime."

Democrats have a slim majority in Virginia to pass multiple police reform bills such as no knock warrants

Sheriff McClanahan said that the democratic party is no longer the party his grandfather was involved in and the ideologies have shifted away from traditional values such as defunding the police and taking away safeguards

Defund the police was the absolute worst thing they could have called this for police reform. You can get a lot more people on board fixing problems with our police with a better name than that.

Not sure why this dude had to switch parties though since the Democrats don't really support the defund the police message either. Plus, plenty of conservative dems out there.
