I'd say Naruto takes it, even as someone who grew up with DBZ and didn't watch Naruto until much later.

OG Naruto >>> OG Dragon Ball
Naruto Shippuden >= Dragon Ball Z
Boruto > Dragon Ball Super

I prefer 2D fighting games though and Dragon Ball definitely takes it in that area. Though I've heard the Ultimate Ninja Storm games are really good.

Also worth noting that the Naruto and Boruto dubs have much, MUCH better and more talented voice actors than the Dragon Ball series.

I used to give Dragon Ball an excuse for being worse since it came first. But man even Dragon Ball Super is just awful and it's still ongoing. So much bad writing, plot holes, retcons, awful flanderization etc. Naruto/Boruto have some problems but I don't think they're nearly as bad as Dragon Ball.

I haven't seen either, but Naruto wins because it has better waifus

No, there just aren't many female characters in general which proves my point

I forgot Kale and Caulifla but they barely even appeared and were quickly discarded. And they were handled even worse in the manga where Gohan just KO'd them off screen

I used to think the same, but I gave Naruto a chance and it's undeniably better. Have you actually watched it a decent ways in?

I prefer Dragon Ball, but understand why someone would choose Naruto.. The writing is more intriguing, but I think suffers a LOT from being such a fucking slog to get through. Even without the filler I found myself getting impatient when watching it.

Naruto is mostly fine with filler, just skip the last ~80 episodes and go to the last one after the Sasuke retrieval arc ends

Shippuden would be trickier because they weaved a lot of the filler stuff in with the canon stuff. But for the most part you can just skip the filler arcs and the flashback scenes. There is also a fan-made Naruto Kai that does the job pretty well. Boruto doesn't have any huge filler problems afaik

? Boruto is better than Super. Both have some ridiculous plot lines but at least Boruto continues the trend of having great voice acting for the dubs and better animation. And at least they didn't quit on the Boruto anime like they did the Super anime.

Super is literally one of the worst modern animes out there even among its fellow Shounen, if it didn't have the Dragon Ball name attached then nobody would care.

Also fun fact, if you watch dubs then watch the Bang Zoom dub of Super. It is sooooo much better than the Funimation dub, the voice actors are actually talented and not some dumb hicks from the backwoods of Texas working out of their basements

DBZ alone shits on all na/boruto universe.

I agree DBZ has better "moments," but Naruto has some solid moments as well. And the writing in between them is just so much better (or less bad, I guess?) in Naruto that I prefer it overall

just felt like it was another ass pull type anime where the pull bs abilities out their ass to win which ends up making the build up feel like it was all for nothing but doing it unironically too.

All the Naruto things I've watched are just terrible. Bad animation, meh characters (although their designs are fine), boring, filler, etc. Almost every other anime I've watched has easily been better and that includes all the DB things I've seen.

I equate that to people who remember the Sonic Adventure games fondly. They remember the music and the fun stages, and just choose to forget all the BS in between

Naruto has some pretty iconic fights as well, even among the less popular characters. For every Goku vs Vegeta or Gohan vs Cell in DB there's a Naruto vs Pain or Sasuke vs Itachi. Not as iconic and maybe not as memorable but still good in their own right

Dragon Ball did the same before Kai. It's just a product of a different time, back then we didn't have continuously accessible anime and reruns weren't played much in Japan, so they had to play flashbacks so newer people could understand the story

Now we have streaming and don't need to have long flashback scenes in anime, for the most part

Dragonball is a ride through and through with legit funny moments. Naruto has a better story behind it, but it's more "serious."

Idk, I just view Boruto as a less serious slice-of-life anime that shows what happened after the events of Naruto. I don't see why everyone says it's as bad as it is

Super though is completely awful, you know it's bad when the wacky fan theories people come up with (Gohan Blanco, Goku Black being Goten, Frieza becoming GoD) are better than what actually happens in the show

I'd at least give it until the Chunin exam arc (it comes right after the one you mentioned), that's where most people agree it started to get good. Has some great character developments, some of the main recurring villains are revealed, and has very memorable and iconic fights. I didn't really care much for the arc you mentioned but I was hooked by the end of the Chunin exams

OG Naruto is better than Dragon Ball but Z is better than Shippuden easily.

Its a big time investment, I started naruto in december and watching it on and off im up to episode 60 of boruto

The first few arcs of the original naruto series are worth seeing, theres lots of good stuff after zabuza/haku

Shippuden definitely gets worse after the pain arc, the ninja war is very boring

Its a better show than dbz as much as I love DB

I would love is DB took a page from naruto and did flashback arcs and fleshed out more characters than just goku

Seems like most people here prefer Dragon Ball. Makes sense since most people here are mid-20s at the youngest, so that's what they grew up with. I wonder how the responses would change with a younger demographic
