They seem to have a pretty low bar when selling the license for games. If you like strategy games Warhammer Total War (fantasy) and Dawn of War (40k) are great . Space Marine was a fun third person shooter when it came out (not sure how it holds up) and the Vermintide games (fantasy) are fun Left for Dead clones.

Main reason people mix them up is that warcraft actually began life as a ripoff of Warhammer. Also starcraft is a ripoff of Warhammer 40k
