I am of course referring to these.

These are typically fine until you have to do an edge or a corner. Then they become a big cumbersome beast that doesnt maneuver very well and you need a whole separate machine to get the edges.

Could they not design something that makes trimmers and that obsolete, something that can get a corner or edge with precision and be able to back out or something...

this is the part where you tell me this already exists but for some reason hasnt caught on at all or any average person has heard of it.

edge or a corner
Thats what line trimmers are for.

In general, you don't want to mow within 1.5 mower widths to any edge. That way, after your clean up pass, its 0.5 mower lengths needed to line trim. Which is roughly the size of the trimmer head.

And that goes for soft edges too, i.e. rockbeds or gardens. You can mow right close to patio stones, but you still need to edge them with the trimmer.

Imagine shabily taking care of your lawn.

yeah and to my point this is dumb as hell and there should be a better design so you dont need to buy two machines.

Battlebots except the blade is on the bottom

Also, in terms of mowers,

Gas > corded > manual > battery.

I heard there was a roomba for lawns but I never really looked into it.

Also your rankings are completely out to lunch.

I have a strict anti cord policy, in my utopia nothing, and I mean nothing would use cords. But especially anything in the back yard thats corded is just about the worst pain in the ass anyone could ask for.

We call them strimmers in the UK.
Basically a bit of plastic line that spins real fast.
Some of them you can buy little carts for that you slot them on and it turns it into a highly manoeuverable lawnmower.

There exists such a tool - the European scythe. An elegant multipurpose tool that that been refined for centuries. It will not cost you a lot to purchase and maintain. It will not destory your lawn or kick rocks at your windows. It will reduce your carbon footprint and not bother your neighbors at 6am. Proper usage will give you a satisfying workout without exhausting yourself lugging heavy machine around and provides a greater connection with your land.

I got a battery powered one which is pretty good honestly. I've never really felt like it was underpowered and it lasts around 45min on a charge, which is enough for my entire section.

One of these, I cant remember which size: https://egopowerplus.com.au/power-mowers/

Sounds like TC is just lazy.

Yardwork sucks. Mowing and trimming both suck and you kind of suck for wanting a yard. It comes full circle.

If you have a dog or kids it's even more work because you have to pick up all the toys and poop.

I'm sure they could, but it'd probably cost a hell of a lot more than a professional grade mower and weed eater combined

Ive seen these people. Its pretty badass. But not the cleanest results. Also keeping that blade sharp is a whole thing.

initially yeah. But if it became a standard design it would become a fair price quickly.

also I have a decent electric mower that is very reliable. I dont need another mower. Im saying the design is archaic and Im sure theres gotta be a smarter system.

What's your average yard size over there? I can't imagine that would work for anyone living outside a city.

I don't know what the average is tbh and I don't have one of the cart thingies, I just use my strimmer for edges and quick trims.

get chickens, easier to care for and its legal in more places. pair it with ducks and you're perfectly set for garden pests too.
