The privacy concerns far outweigh random internet outages.

A portion of your bandwidth will be shared with anyone else in the area, about half a mile. They say it caps at 80 Kbps and will use no more than 500 MB a month, and they say they will be using three layers of encryption to keep your shared data safe, but is that good enough for you?

It takes a portion of your bandwidth and shares it out for about half a mile, so as long as everyone in the neighborhood has it, all your Amazon products that use it can still have connection even if your internet dies out. So you can have access to your doorbell or whatever at all times, so long as the neighborhood's internet is stable.

No one.

That's why they made it opt-out feature instead of opt-in.

Comcast has been doing something like this for years with their modem/router's default setting.

Yeah, Virgin in UK have done this for like a decade or more, it feels like. Thought this was standard practise for internet providers at least.

"Mesh" networking is likely to be the future, yes - just not a proprietary mesh.

I can definitely see the benefit of this to help people with low-bandwidth internet connections.

Not sure if I would participate in it personally, though. I have a Google Assistant ecosystem any way and I'm not looking to switch to Amazon Alexa.

Only if we get rid of regional monopolies and we get actual competition and good internet.

Mesh would eliminate the need for ISPs.

Without an ISP what is there to mesh?

Everything.
The middlemen (ISPs) would be replaced by a theoretically infinite number of middlemen (every device between you and the desired host).

It would essentially be the original design spec of the internet.

You would still need said middlemen of decent quality.

TC probably believes the the VPN ads too. "HACKERS ARE STEALING YOUR BANK ACCOUNT INFO! PAY US 10 DOLLARS A MONTH"

lmao this is fine imo. more internet is a good thing.
