That is because cringe is a verb, and also a noun, so his comment induced a cringe from you. If you snort pepper, you will probably sneeze. It will likely induce a sneeze. "Pepper is so sneeze" is a fucking dumb failure of an expression

This. I still try to avoid using it. Viral made sense to me out the gate and never bothered me. I don't use it because I don't really care about tjat type of stuff.
