Swimming burns the most calories/hr, HIIT burns the most per minute but you can only handle doing it like twice a week. Eating protein is low calorie and high satiety (which means it makes you feel full), veggies are high satiety and nearly zero calories Sugar makes you more hungry, usually. Drinking calories doesn't fill you up at all and is a waste Strength training will help you preserve muscle, which is easily lost if you under eat, and if you have more muscle you'll burn more calories The best routine would be three days of full body strength training per week and 6 days of 1 hour of swimming, coupled with a high protein (120g+) whole foods based diet ... I did 9 today, which was the most since my half marathon training 4 years ago. But yeah, running is extremely efficient at losing calories. I recommend stairs for a number of reasons.

The only thing I would add is for protein specifically, I would stick to 0.8-1 grams of protein per pound of what you weigh, and space it out between 4-5 meals per day.
