37 y/o Lawrence Artl III, a high school biology teacher from Las Vegas was arrested after he offered a female student to change her grade from an F to an A if she had SEX with him!!

He is charged with one count of an employee engaging in a sexual relatonship with a student over the age of 16 and 2 counts of preventing or dissuading a person from testifying

He turned himself into police on May 12 over the sexual encounter at her parent's house but has since been released

He's taught at the Las Vegas Academy of Arts since 2007 and earned a salary of 83,500 in 2019

The girl told investigators he went to her house on 2 separate occasions and during his second visit she and him had sex

She also had another encounter where she kissed him in his car.

The legal age of consent is 16 in Nevada but if the minor is a student and the person is a teacher or a figure of authority then the age of consent is 18

The duo initially exchanged messages in school email but later switched to SC as their preferred method

When the investigation was launched, he told her to block him and "delete everything" around the same time she earned a 4 out of 8 on a quiz but then changed it to 8/8

Really, really depends on the state/district. My local one starts at like 59k, 62k if you have an MA. I know a teacher who's been teaching HS for 20 yearsish, no MA, and makes around 90k now. Extra units beyond BA + years on the job = climbing the salary schedule, and taking on additional responsibilities brings more stipends as well.

But this is in CA, go to the South or midwest, rural areas, and it's far, far less.

This is the same law in Canada. Like I was doing an optional law class in college and they told us that if a 18 Years old was the coach of a 17 years old, it's illegal, but the age of consent is 16. It's kinda weird, but that's how it works.

Canada also has stipulations for difference in age doesn't it?

Like an 18 year old could sleep with a 16 year old, but I don't think its legal for a 28 year old to do that.

Depends on the school district. At the absolute maximum a teacher here could earn $135,961. Starting is 67k though which isn't bad at all.
