Just play blind, I say. I don't think the games are improved by following a guide all the way through to do everything perfectly on your first playthrough.

i don't actually know the answer to this: do the Evo versions add any significant content gameplay or plot-wise?

i've already resigned myself to the different art style, which is generic but fine.

the evos make the quartz system worse, more like the later games, unless I'm mistaken. Also worse music

If you've already played the games I feel like it'd be a big waste of time to replay them. I haven't done it so maybe there is more value to replaying them then I realize, but they're fairly linear.
