CyricZ 05/19/21 6:41:34 PM #1:	Anything he does in the films could have been done by a dog with opposable thumbs and mechanical ability. And this pains me to say it coming from someone who has been a Star Wars fan for over 30 years and remains a Star Wars fan to this day despite everything. And the EU does, from time to time, try to dig into Chewie's character, present him as a sapient nonhuman character much like so many others seen in the franchise, with his own hopes, dreams, goals, ideals, outlook on life. But every time he's in live action, he's almost always just "there". He reacts to things characters say. Whenever he acts it's to do things other characters have established that need to be done. One of the only times he acts on his own it's to follow his stomach and get everyone stuck in a trap. Obviously, the two things working against using him as a character with more depth are 1) the fact that the audience can't understand him and 2) that's he's a suit that can't emote subtly. And of course people love Chewie, but I feel like they love him for being a furry rascal and a steadfast companion, and he's never really had the chance to be his own being. Am I just being weird?
