Are the people you meet in your hostel also solo travelers? Do you go to places with them or you go alone?

I have, did Europe a few years ago, 2 weeks thru Prague, Amsterdam, London and Dublin.

Some are solo, some couples or friends. It's up to you if you want the trip for yourself or if your looking to meet some new people. Remember most of these people are from a different part of the world, so it's nice to have a conversation about where they're from and what travels they've done. I met people from a couple from Eidenburg, collage students from Copahagan, a guy from Germany, a girl from Austria, cousins from Sweden, a girl from Paris who hasn't been home in over 3 years! She lived in the Amazon for 6 months.

Go out to bar crawls! That's how I met some people. We ended hanging out for the night and met up at restaurants the next day.

There are apps where you can meet other travellers and make plans with them there.

Yeah I traveled solo for 2 years abroad backpacking, staying in hostels. Its a lot of fun. did Southeast Asia, Europe, Australia, japan, New Zealand, South America, Central America.

Hostels provide an outlet if you feel lonely and isolated after traveling alone for a while because you get to meet other travelers there and you can share experiences. Its a great way to meet people

I love travelling alone. You're not beholden to anyone else so you can do whatever you want. As someone said earlier, if you want someone to hang out with there are plenty of other people staying at hostels who are looking for the same thing.

But it should go without saying that if you're traveling alone you need to be extra diligent about not putting yourself in bad positions. Especially if you're a woman

My favorite hostel story: Was up late hanging out alone in the common room drinking a beer and reading. A few of the staff (a girl and two guys) came back from a party they were at and started playing pool, the girl (who had checked me in that morning) came over, remembering my name, and asked me if I wanted to play with them. Ended up having a fucking amazing time, getting tons of free beers from them, drunkenly practicing some German and solving all the world's problems (some major black spots that night), really hit it off with her especially, she was busy the next day and the day after was my last day, we made out for like an hour then I had to leave but she ended up becoming a good friend.

Travel solo, it's great.

Hang out in the common rooms. Don't just hide in your dorm when you're "home." Or don't be afraid to ask your dorm-mates if they want to go grab a drink or something. Many of them are probably up for it!

Everyone there is super interesting and there are common areas and you can't NOT interact, everyone is there to share stories and get to know other travelers

I was super quiet before I went and it was the most social I'd ever been

For some reason imgur is no longer displaying the commentary on the photos in these links, but I enjoy both of these reddit posts as good examples of why solo travel can be great:

I spent 3 years traveling around Europe, picking up work where I could.

I highly recommend it, the freedom was awesome. If I liked a place I stayed, if I didn't I hitchhiked somewhere else.
