My parents should have never brought me into the world, or, at the very least, my mom should have never had a child with my loser father. I'm not going to risk perpetuating that cycle, no matter how good a shot I have at giving a child a sustainably good life - my mom thought she did, then my dad's many fuckups and her own issues caught up with her. My family history of serious mental health problems (chronic depression and autism are confirmed to run in my genes, as does what I suspect to be a susceptibility to developing borderline personality disorder) and physical health problems that have a solid chance of causing me to fall apart by middle age also doesn't help, and bringing a kid into this world when you know you're more likely than not to saddle them with something that is going to make their life much worse is a pretty shitty thing to do.

In your parents' day and age they didn't have to worry about crushing college debt, wage stagnation, entry level jobs requiring three years experience, and a housing bubble. Don't compare yourself to them.
11/10 post

Our parents generation had hope that we dont. Wages are not sustainable and you cant find work. Somehow, everything costs exponentially more than it used to, back when people could still find work.

Most single people are struggling to stay out of debt, so why even try? Kids were expensive back when we were growing up and most of us dont have a fair enough salary (or wage) to afford it.

When I was in my early 20s, I had those feeling of needing a wife and kid, but came to my senses when I realized that people arent faithful in relationships and its always the husband/father who gets fucked over in court.

Same. Everybody I went to high school with is married with kids and shit. I actually want kids, but I'd probably become a foster parent before rushing into marriage and starting a family.

I'm 38 and the worst possible thing I could have ever done in my life would have been procreating. I made it my mission to never have kids and that will remain a priority indefinitely.

I'm 46 and have no kids and no (in)significant other and I'm perfectly happy. I tried the dating thing for a couple decades and found that even though I accepted those I dated as they were when I met them they always seemed to want me to change.

So I decided that I was better off without that hassle in my life.

I didnt expect this topic to blow up like it did....

Lots of valid points... to be honest Im not that worried about the financial implications of having children. Im not in the best place financially at the moment, but I feel like its mostly because Im lazy If I knew that I got a girl pregnant I would be much more motivated to actually hustle and get more money I would not be a deadbeat dad

Im having a mid 20s crisis where I feel like Im comfortable and I have nothing pushing me to achieve anything great... Back in February I started going to the gym every day and Ive seen some decent progress in my physique which felt great in the beginning but now that motivation has kind of faded and I want a new challenge in my life... Im still working out but right now I want a woman who depends on me and a child who I can think about when Im grinding at work or trying to do a side hustle that potentially grows into a full time business or something.

Maybe Im completely delusional, but I want to give it a shot Literally YOLO... If I dont do this then Im gonna live my whole life in regret.

I don't believe it's a good idea to just start a relationship and have a kid just because you think it'll motivate you more or even just doing it just to do it. Treating it like something you believe you're supposed to do like a chore on a list makes me think you'll regret it down the line and that your relationships will suffer for it.

When your parents had you, it was still possible to support a family with one decent salary. Nowadays you basically need both parents to make a living.

Topic creator needs to improve himself and be content by himself, claiming a wife and child will be motivation to work harder is literally using them as an excuse on why he is lazy now. Like working out I have a feeling he will get bored of the wife and child once it loses its luster as we see with working out as he now needs a new challenge.

It is bad thinking that his money issues now will be magically solved if he has a wife and child to provide for. He clearly does not know that life does not work that way and people can struggle for years before finding something better no matter how much effort is applied.

If you can't understans the concept that different people get joy out of different things than I'd say you're not mature enough to have kids.
