Not saying I agree with the fight but it settles things down and forces everyone to move on. Hockey being a game of emotion, not everyone is going to have a rational reaction to an accident that knocks their captain out of the series. You also can't guarantee that everyone knows it was an accident. Players blow up and fight over legal, minor hits all the time.

Perry was under no obligation to accept but he did anyways because he knew what it represents for both teams. He takes his lumps so other players won't have to worry about retaliation and escalation. I think it's stupid but it's also understandable.

Did you just start watching hockey this season or something? A fight to calm things down is pretty much... standard in hockey. As said above, Perry didn't need to accept and drop his gloves either.

Sounds like you have more of an issue with fighting in hockey in general than the fact that he had a fight afterwards. Which is a different argument entirely.

a fight to calm things down has stopped being the standard for a while, it's really stupid and backwards. It really isn't much of a different argument than saying fighting in the game is bad; the Perry fight was bad and fighting is bad.

As for the blows to the head, the league already has enough fucking issues acknowledging the brain damage a lot of players get over their career i'd say bio does have a point here.

A fight is not the most dangerous thing that can happen in a hockey game and that even includes clean hits tbh.

I don't disagree the sports is dangerous, but fighting is something that could be eliminated easily and without consequences. I really don't buy into the bizarre mentality of fights calming things down, it doesn't make sense. The players aren't neanderthals. The fact that it remains somewhat ingrained in the game isn't a good enough reason to not want things to improve.

Yeah the timeline on this is kinda fucking stupid but he's suspended indefinitely pending the results of his hearing.

So even if for some dumb reason they didn't announce it until tomorrow, the Avs know he's suspended tonight regardless and whatever his suspension length is would count tonight as the first game.

It literally worked for decades.

Wilson can be held in check better by a big monster who's there for that purpose than the joke shit the league hands out.

And when you're playing a game that fast and physical of course tempers flare. Getting it out during a scrap is 100% better than when guys end up head hunting and something really serious happens.

Kinda like dudes in wrestling, football, boxing, mma, and literally every other contact sport have had issues with cte huh? No one fights in football. Pro wrestling isn't even real. So whats the solution? Ban contact sports?

Fighting isn't fuck all compared to the hits.

It happens often enough that a badly reffed or managed game leads to escalating violence and cheap shots on the ice. I don't know anyone who's watched hockey in the last few years deny that. Should the referees do a better job of looking out for player safety? Absolutely they should. But since they prioritize game management over player safety, the onus will be on the players to occasionally settle things on the ice. Or in a perfect world no player will take cheap shots on other players. Fighting is still way down, and trending that way.
