I didn't know it was a new show, I could have sworn I've seen it before but maybe it was just teaser trailers.

Don't know what to expect. The animation looks... okay. I mean at least it's not calarts garbage.

I wasn't gonna watch something animated but thought why not something to kill time. Plus I do like Amazon's the boys, though now its two super power shows the service has.

The Tick is also pretty good. Although it was apparently expensive to produce and got canned just when it had finally reached it's goofiness potential.

It's by amazon, not hbo, so I'm not really concerned with overly gratuitous sex scenes to hook viewers.

Lol if something like the boys was on hbo instead of amazon we'd probably constantly see sex scenes with the 2 protagonists at every turn and every introduction of a character would be them in the middle of coitus XD

The Tick was legitimately great. Wish it didn't get cancelled.

Oh crap I forgot about the tick... and I was literally watching it a few months ago as well.

I guess I was thinking "anti-superhero" shows when I said that, although speaking of I always felt that the tick was amazon's precursor to the boys, since it was also kind of dark (tonally weird but I grew to like it) and had superion who is literally just the precursor to homelander.

I'll never forget the reason it was canceled/so expensive (them wasting cgi to remove seams from the suit christ lol what a waste)

Is dated the right word? From the snippets I've seen so far I'd say it's more that it's average and very basic, like with Marvel's foray into cartoons eg avengers earth's mightiest heroes (incidentally the best animated show from marvel, spectacular spiderman notwithstanding)

I don't know if good animation is more expensive than live action, but superhero shows that I thought were animated great are young justice season 1 (and 2) plus Justice League Unlimited is probably the pinnacle of animation for DCAU.

It reminds me of JL animation, which feels very early 2000s.

I think the stylistic choice is probably on purpose tho to make you think it's a typical superhero cartoon before a bait and switch in the first ep.

It still is a typical super hero cartoon. The only difference is that this is a bit more violent.

I like how these anti super hero shows that pop up constantly mock/parody/pay homage to DC more so than Marvel since DC is/was the most iconic of the two in supes.

I watched the first two episodes and episode 2 made me facepalm irl

-aliens invade and a crapton of people die
-that area of downtown is open again 3 days later
-aliens invade again and a lot of people die again
-that area of downtown opens again a few days later
-aliens invade yet again and guess what a lot of people die again. At this point I was thinking they deserved it

I love seeing these topics because of posts like this lol.

I think the animation choice is very deliberate. There are scenes where it's fantastic, so I don't think it's done purely for budget. I think it's done to make it look like a kid's comic book.

I somehow avoided getting spoiled even though I've seen that "Think" meme floating around online for the past week because I just finished the season today after watching 4 episodes in a row

The feel they went with that animation style to do a bait and switch.

But yeah its a really good show. I think its a little rough in the beginning, but gets amped up to a 10/10 near the ending episodes. Im excited for season 2.

Bc the first 40 mins of ep 1 legit just feels like a generic JL reskin. Similar art style, obvious JL ripoff characters, boring "save the White House" battle, no civilians get hurt, everything goes off without a hitch, cussing is at a minimum, everything is very PG and lulls you into a false impression.... until the post-credits scene.

Makes sense given that the source material for The Boys and Invincible were both started before the rise of the MCU.
