Yes, I would love to work every single Sunday from now on because there aren't enough people free on Sunday.

I guess places would just have to shut down on Sundays if enough employees said they couldn't work on the Lord's Day.

I did this years ago when I worked a shit minimum wage job. We had a lazy fuck coworker who said he was Catholic so he wouldn't have to work Sundays. I figured why the fuck should I have to and converted as well, lol

I mean, if that's considered unfair...there are lots of practices, meant to avoid workplace discrimination, that could be seen as unfair...

Also, what religion says you can't work on Sunday? I know some Jewish people follow the Sabbath, but I didn't think that extended outside of those who are Jewish

Lmao. If you want to go down this path I'd argue you're actually discriminating against people who aren't religious by making them work sundays

That is illogical. If work lets a Muslim off to celebrate Ramadan but doesn't also let a Christian off, they have discriminated the Christian? No.

But if work tells a Muslim they cannot celebrate their holy religious day or they are fired, that is discrimination.

Also, Diwali.

So, you want them to fire Muslims who want Ramadan off.
And that isn't discriminating against their religious belief?

FYI, that would mean the policy of the workplace is NO MUSLIMS ALLOWED.

But Axiom said that is not discrimination.

...do you mean Eid bc Muslims aren't asking for a month off of work lmao

All I know is there is some day related to that which is taken off. Then for Indian offshore workers I believe they do that with Diwali.
Jewish people have Yom Kippur.
etc, etc

Basically, most religions have a day that they need to observe unless they are like not actually religious of their religion.
If a workplace says they can't take those days off, they might as well say we don't hire people of these religions.

Muslim Holidays

Twice a year, first at the end of Ramadan and again during the time of the pilgrimage, Muslims celebrate Eid, meaning festival, for a period of three to four days. The first holiday, Eid al-Fitr, the Festival of Breaking the Fast, comes at the conclusion of Ramadan and celebrates the successful completion of the month of fasting. The second holiday, Eid-ul-Adha, the Festival of the Sacrifice, is celebrated at the time of the Hajj or pilgrimage to Mecca by Muslims who did not go on the pilgrimage. These holidays are celebrated with congregational prayers, fair-like celebrations, visiting friends, and exchanging gifts. Muslim employees may request to take time off for the first day of the holidays twice a year for these celebrations, just as employees of other faiths take days off for their holidays. Both celebrations also follow the lunar calendar, so the dates move eleven days earlier each year and are determined by the sighting of the new moon. Adding Muslim holidays to any corporate calendar and avoiding scheduling important meetings on the holidays is greatly appreciated.

Yea I guess it is eid.

Also, what do you axiom and tc think of prayer rooms?

prayer rooms should absolutely be a thing. no one is saying to strip religious people of every accommodation they need to fulfill their faith.

Thought the point was giving one group of people a special thing based on their faith. Infact the point of a prayer room is so that a religious person can take a break during work hours and sit there and pray.

What if the boss caught an atheist sitting around in the prayer room, taking a break but obviously not praying and told them to go work? This is not unfair?

Someone needs to work. I just don't think I should be stuck working every Sunday because some people say God prevents them from it.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

Lying is wrong and I'd never be able to make that story work. It would also be unfair to the other poor co-workers stuck with Sundays.

WingsOfGood posted...

I have no problem with accommodations at work. Just show up at work. They can ask for days off like everyone else and get them if it's possible and fair, just like a less religious person.

Me, I just lie.

For example I treat my birthday as a religious holiday. Bare in mind I'm agnostic atheist and have negative opinions about actual religions.

Luckily my current job is very flexible, but even my past jobs I just told my boss I'm not coming on a specific date so I need pto. Had one boss schedule me anyway. Informed her feel free to schedule me, but letting you know in advanced I'm calling out lol.

I didn't have a history calling out, so she had nothing on me. Refuse to work on national me day.

If you take the time to be honest to put stock into part history and part world cultures you are definitely deserving of time off

but if you just want a day off so you can get micro pieces of poop not discernible to the human eye stuck under your finger nail and eat doritos all day then naw b

getcho ass back into work mode

Came to say this, it's bs because even if they need a 10 minute smoke break twice a day that's like 10 minutes to the smoke area and back. So yeah, basically a free hour of work.

but if it's every Sunday, that's weird. They are working one day a week on another day right?
We've had some turnover and corporate keeps taking hours, so we have only 3 technicians that can work on Sundays while balancing hours through the other 6 days of the week, so that means I'm basically stuck with every Sunday. One girl that takes off would absolutely no-show and raise a stink up the ladder if we tried to make her work a Sunday. Not only that, she asks for other days off and just assume she should get them every time she asks. Everyone should get days off and she is extremely selfish for such a God-fearing woman.
