Why didnt Raiden go to a higher up with hard proof of the violation ?

(I have not seen the movie but I do know this is pretty much a prequel in nature)

Yeah it's dumb. Historically Goro was such a fucking badass that he killed every combatant every tournament until he finally lost in they last one. That doesn't happen in this movie it's about Shang Tsung taking cheap shots and killing them before the tournament even starts.

..............................Are you serious ?!, So instead of actually fighting in the tournament Shang Tsung is doing what amounts to assassinating the competition when Raiden actively knows about it but never goes to the Elder Gods about it when a rule of the tournament clearly states:
"the defending realm's fighters cannot be attacked by the opposing realm's fighters until the tournament begins.".

"Any violation of the above rules is considered an act of treason against the realms and the Elder Gods themselves, and will be dealt with accordingly and swiftly."
This rule right here is why I ask how the fuck Raiden does not immediately have an Elder God come to Earth to see that Shang Tsung is violating one of the major rules so Earth has little to no chance.

It gets dumber. Shang Tsung acknowledges within the movie that what he's doing is against the rules and he'd be in deep shit of the elder gods caught him. Then eventually Raiden catches him red handed, let's him go, then he leaves, comes back and does it again, and then Raiden sends the earth realm warriors to assassinate the outrealm champions outside of mortal kombat.

Did anyone hit Raiden in the head really hard before or after catching Shang Tsung red handed ? If so it could be bullshitted away as a "Son Goku" moment.

Raiden is suppose to be the protector of Earth, having Earth's champions fight Outworld's champions other then in defense is him breaking the rules himself. Raiden in 95's movie was all about making sure no one fucked with the rules BEFORE the tournament began.

I enjoyed some parts of it, overall it was a fun but really dumb time. Cole was an absolutely useless waste of time, dude doesn't do a damn thing of relevance the entire film and is boring. He replaced Johnny Cage literally because they didn't want a white person; they could have at least had Liu Kang or Kung Lao lead it instead for an Asian lead. The birthmark shit and arcana powers was really stupid. Kung Lao, Kano, and Sub-Zero vs Scorpion save the movie, I feel like if it weren't for them, the movie would have been complete dogshit. The opening segment was really promising, too, and some of the fatalities were pretty cool.

Imagine going to watch a Mortal Kombat movie and expecting it to be good. It's not like people play the ganes for the story. Let's be real here.

People absolutely play mortal kombat for the story for the last decade. Also the fighting obviously but in every other modern fighting game I feel like the story is ignored completely.

The nano second Raiden saw rule breaking by Shang Tsung should have been a huge "you done fucked up" with a shit eating grin by Raiden before calling in the Elder Gods. Especially if Shang Tsung knew he would be fucked HARD if anyone discovered he was breaking the rules.

It was not a bad movie, especially the first half. But once they started training it felt so fuckin rushed.

and it has possibly the worst editing I have ever seen in a movie. There is a split second cut at around the 54 minute mark that I had to rewind and be like how the fuck did they leave that in the movie? It was so jarring

I mean I got most of the cuts I think. They show the band working on the song, they start playing the song, they cut to a live performance concert, then they cut to the next act. I think these are called flash forwards in cinematography.

it wasn't a good movie, but it was a fine action flick. Unless you're some insufferable upset about plot changes, in which case you need a lot of self reflection, i don't see how you could say it was bad. It was exactly what you knew it was going to be as an R rated mortal kombat movie. Some cool fights, low plot, thankfully no forced romance subplot, and world building to turn it into a franchise because that's the world we live in. Plus Joe Taslim is great, was wonderful to watch him play sub zero after just finishing up Warrior earlier this month where he really grew on me there.

Though, it does lose 1 star for not using the 90s mortal kombat movie song

So I just got back from watching the movie in theaters with my pals and I have to agree. Cole feels like those boring ass self inserts isekai protagonists minus all the girls wanting to suck his dick. He added nothing to the story and I honestly felt if he was taken out, they could've put in more time to establish the earth realm fighters. I'm mostly sad they did Kung Lao dirty, but it is kind of to be expected when I learned that Kung Lao was only added in because the actor was really good with fighting (he's part of the Jackie Chan stunt team), but didn't get the part of Liu Kang. They got Mileena completely wrong and Raiden makes no fucking sense in this movie. Like he catches Shang Tsung breaking the fucking rules and not only does he not "consult with the elder gods" about it, but then he decides to break the rules himself. The MK 95' movie whole point was that Raiden was a badass thunder god that could fry the competition, but can't because of the rules of the tournament and puts his trust in the earth realm fighters. MK 95' cast had way better chemistry with each other than this movies casts did.

I probably would like the movie better if I didn't know the lore of Mortal Kombat tbh, like my pals because they seem to call it a good movie. But it is what it is, I did enjoy some bits of the movies like the Scorpion vs Sub-Zero at the end and the Fatality's didn't disappoint. I'm glad they didn't go for the over the top fatality's like in MKX or MK11.

Instead of Johnny Cage, they could have focused on Liu Kang or Sonya Blade, in that order. Sorry, I think Blades character had potential, but I wasnt really feeling that actress. Kano pretty much stole every scene he was in, except the one with Kabal, but theyre both villains, so whatever.

well, i just saw it. it was. well, it was a movie.

the fatalities were the best part, for sure. most of the casting and acting and direction was pretty poor but i think we all knew that would happen. cole is terrible but it's not like mortal kombat doesn't have terrible characters anyway. hopefully he dies in the next one.

for what it was, it wasn't bad. i wouldn't watch it again. it's not memorable. but it's not the worst thing mortal kombat has put out, not at all. if the next one has a bigger budget and better people working on screen and behind the screen, it could be cool.

From what I remember reading, mk vs dc was supposed to be 8 when they first started developing, but it eventually became something else. I don't remember all the details, but I imagine that the death of Midway played a part.
