I always struggle with making other cities. where do i place them? when do i place them? Ah shit some wonders can only be built if I have X in all cities.

fuck all that. Venice. One city, and you are rolling in gold so you can just buy everything because you should be making hundreds of gold per turn at like, mid-game.
