My heart hurts. What an emotional rollercoaster this show is. I think its fitting that Bojack survives in the end. Herb pretty much foreshadowed it way back in season 1. Paraphrasing here, but basically,

You dont get closure. You have to live with the shitty thing you did and know that its never going to be ok.

Bojack just has to live on knowing the people hes hurt will never forgive him and it will never be ok. As Diane says in the finale,

Lifes a bitch and you keep on living.

The most painful part is that he and Dianne are soulmates who cannot be together.

i felt like it was the opposite, i thought they were very different people that were stuck in a toxic codependent relationship

I didnt get that at all. They were honestly terrible for each other and constantly enabled each others awful behavior. Its fitting that they both started improving as people once they went their separate ways. Theyre better off with out each other and they both know it. Thats why their final conversation in the finale is truly their final conversation.

I also gotta say I really like how they dont give us closure with Hollyhock since Bojack also doesnt get closure. She rightfully cuts him out of her life and he doesnt get to say his peace. Thats real life. Sometimes people leave us whether we deserve it or not (he did) and we dont get to say goodbye. We dont get closure. If Bojacks life were a sitcom like he so desperately wants it to be there would be some heartwarming scene where he apologizes and she forgives him and they hug and make up. But the sad reality is that Bojack may very well never see his little sister again. Is there a chance she may forgive him in the future? Maybe. But its also equally likely that she never will.

Also love how they dont actually show what the letter says. Because even if we dont know, we know.

Idk I'm cool with the lack of closure but I think they could have let us read the letter.

That is my point though, Dianna and Bojack are soulmates. They can love and understand each other in ways no one else could.

But... they are toxic when together, so they can't be together. So Bojack is alone in the end.

Their final conversation was rough too.

Arent you guys having a fight?

Yeah, but I still love her.

Are we having a fight?

Yeah, but... yeah.

She doesnt love him, and she honestly has every right not to. She was right to cut him out. She wouldve had to live her life being known as Bojack Horsemans little sister, constantly being in the shadow of her brothers mistakes despite being a genuinely good person herself. It was the same fear Gina had of having to live in the shadow of Bojacks assault on her.
