• Parents have to be notified 30 days in advance before an LGBT person is so much as mentioned in school materials.
• Students/parents can opt out of this exposure.

Today, the Tennessee House passed HB 1233 (SB 1367), a discriminatory bill that would deny transgender students access to the correct bathroom and locker rooms consistent with the gender identity. The bill further discriminates against transgender students and opens up schools to legal consequences if a student believes they have shared a sex-segregated space --bathrooms, locker rooms or other changing facility -- with a transgender student.

Red states are getting dumber. Virgina banned Dr. Seuss too because he's supposedly racist. I think liberals are bad sometimes but the rules that are being made up are worse and you really don't even know where it's coming from.

It's nazi crap in that regard. From both sides. People should be able to talk openly about things without feeling like they are going to be subjected to nonsnse. It goes both ways really because people don't need to hear about gay people all the time either. But this stuff is really just overboard and crazy.

I was educated in massachusetts though where people talked about these things and it wasn't a big deal. It wasn't talked about all the time either or shoved in peoples faces. The south is still backwards. Liberals have gotten to be too loud too forcing their agendas.

Baby steps I guess...... Maybe they are getting smarter. But it's just baby steps. If people don't agree with it it shouldn't be forced on them either. People still have that right.

It's a step regardless. People have a choice whether they want to hear it or not. I still think it shouldn't be that big a deal either way. These things were just taught where I was educated. There wasn't a big deal made about it either, and some people didn't agree with it either and were damned by people as bigots and whatever. What's crazy is my best friend growing up father was a cop. He was just being himself and was kind of an asshole and people knew it, but that was him and life went on and people loved him regardless and everyone else too.

Thing is like i said my best friend growing up his father was a cop. And he could be kind of an asshole. Doesn't mean I was like that. I was quite the opposite really. Why we were good friends. I kept him in check and was kind of a go between. I had no problem telling him where he was wrong. I was a good friend for all parties involved really.

He wasn't really that either. We were friends for a reason because he was a smart and good guy underneath it all. You don't really know people unless you know people.

My friend used to throw rocks at them when his parents were going through a divorce. But that was just him being him. He was friends with me though. I was friends with all of them. I've lived in the ghetto too. I've been friends with all of them. No joke either. I've had a lot of friends in my life from different places.

That's the thing too even him. It's like i say. In the end we were all friends. Life went on and no harm no foul. And people loved each other regardless.

The intent is that this layer of bureaucracy would be a hassle for some teachers/admin, who'd then rather just opt to not teach about a gay person existing rather than send out permission slips, see who's opting out, finding an alternative classroom for those students, etc. On top of inviting self righteous loonies to protest/intervene/remove kid for a day/etc, which is also cumbersome for the school/admin/district.

I'm sure some clever English teacher can make a point to talk about a gay person on a monthly basis and just be a thorn in the side of everything.
