I'd like a lot of these to be remastered or re-released but I don't think there's any where I'm begging for more or anything. A few of those were one and done as well.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

They're about to release some new mobile Pikmin game.

Regardless of what you think about the latest games it's not a dead IP whatsoever.

The problem is that StarTropics, despite being developed in Japan, was never released in Japan, so the Smash staff may in fact be unaware of its existence, and it doesn't have a massive Western fanbase calling attention towards it.

True, but I'm including it anyway, since I know people would bring it up otherwise.

I should have made a note of that, though.

I left out a lot of the super retro NES titles since I figured that they would be considered dead by default. Aside from Mach Rider, you also have Duck Hunt, Ice Climber, Balloon Fight, Urban Champion, Clu Clu Land, and others.

Looking at the list I think overall they've done a good job keeping the right IP's alive. I can think of many IP's from other companies that were either more successful or critically acclaimed than all of these.

The most popular game on that list is probably Nintendogs and it's obvious why that is head. The game with the most hardcore and vocal fanbase on there is F-Zero and the popularity for that franchise peaked on the SNES.

True. If I had to make an alternate list of active Nintendo IPs...

  • Animal Crossing
  • ARMS (just barely, it seems; Min Min being picked in Smash shows that Nintendo still has--or had, at the time--some interest in the game)
  • Dragalia Lost
  • Donkey Kong
  • Famicom Detective Club (to the surprise of many, even if they are remakes)
  • Fire Emblem
  • Fit series (Wii Fit / Ring Fit Adventures)
  • Kirby
  • The Legend of Zelda
  • Metroid
  • Mii series
  • Pikmin
  • Pokmon
  • Rhythm Heaven (this one might be in limbo, too)
  • Splatoon
  • Star Fox (again, in limbo)
  • Super Mario
  • Super Smash Bros.
  • WarioWare
  • Xenoblade

Reminder that Nintendo just said recently that F-Zero isn't actually dead, but they're looking for a way to reintroduce it with a new gimmick. Which is still dumb and it's up in the air if they'll ever make a new game but it isn't straight up dead at least, since they're at least thinking about it.

I am sad as fuck that Advance Wars, Elite Beat Agents, Hotel Dusk, Sin & Punishment, and Wonderful 101 are all dead though. I mean, come on. Advance Wars at least would absolutely sell well if Nintendo made a new one.

They said a 'grand idea'

Speaking to IGN, retired designer Takaya Imamura said that he doesn't believe F-Zero is dead at Nintendo, even with such an extended absence. However, he said that without a "grand idea," it's a difficult series to revive. The other games were fairly straightforward sci-fi racers, not featuring major overhauls aside from much better visuals when coming to different platforms. These days, that might not be enough.

https://www.ign.com/articles/ex-nintendo-designer-says-f-zero-isnt-dead-its-just-hard-to-bring-back

Which I think makes total sense? F-Zero as a series just got less and less popular as time went on. Since F-Zero's last game arcade racers are significantly less popular than they used to be and futuristic arcade racers are even less popular than that.

I have a feeling they aren't really overly thinking about it. It only really comes up when sites like IGN ask them about it. This is from the guy who seemed pretty heavily involved with F-Zero and has left the company too.

Thinking about it pretty much every company has their version of F-Zero

Sony - Wipeout and Twisted Metal
Microsoft - Midtown Madness
EA - Road Rash and Burnout
Sega - Outrun
Activision - Rock 'n' Roll Racing and Vigilante 8

I'm sure someone owns the the San Francisco Rush series lol

1080 and Hotel Dusk.

Hotel Dusk is my favorite DS game. I know theres a sequel but IIRC its europe only. Yes i know i can play it with an emulator but id honestly rather just have a hard copy. Kyle Hyde is a great protagonist.

And 1080, man i played the living shit out of that on Gamecube until someone stole my copy. Id love if they brought this back.

Eternal Darkness & Earthbound need new releases, really don't care about any other games on the list
As mentioned earlier, EarthBound isn't dead so much as it is finished, as the original creator/writer for the series--who shares ownership with Nintendo--considers the whole thing done and doesn't want to do a MOTHER 4.

Geist had a really cool concept but was kinda boring. Id love to see another game if they could improve it.

Eternal Darkness is one of my most wanted revivals of any one-off IPs. I played the shit out of that game.

Id also like to see another Star Tropics, punch out, or 1080. Excite bike and wave race would be alright too.

To conclude Ill just say its a shame whats happened to FZero.
