Man, RTTS junkies are pissed. Some dude on Reddit said he did an entire season and one of his stats only went up one point, lmao. Maybe I should try to pick up The Show '20 for cheap -- looks like there's plenty of third-party sellers who're unloading it.

It's not helping that it's bugged so you cant get credit for doing the dd 'style's cards to upgrade. Rtts just isn't fun right now, I switched to franchise which has been neglected forever.

Gameplay itself is fine, but it was fine in 20 too. I haven't noticed any functionality of the ps5 adaptive triggers, though there aren't that many options where it could have made sense anyway.

If your last gen, there is no reason to upgrade, I'm sure there are updated rosters you can download.

For next gen, the create a stadium can be fun if you're creative and can be patient with the tools.

The game is a PORT UP from PS4 development, the next gen versions are nothing special

It's usually the only mode I hardcore play. I didn't even touch it this weekend. On a bright note I learned I enjoyed all the Diamond Dynasty online and offline stuff.

Rtts was the same as I played it 2 years ago. You can focus your stats with swappable "talents/perks" which I found different.

I'm getting sick of starting some games pitching so I think I'm gonna play a position as normal and switch to the bullpen the next time skipper chats me

i haven't paid attention to the commentary all that much but I've seen in a review they mention how it's mostly the same so I wouldn't expect anything super new.

Oh wow, the commentary hasn't been drastically updated since '16 or so? Didn't know that. I only started playing with '19. Part of the fun for me was trying to hear new commentary, so I tried to break various records and stuff. Matty V shouting "closer to TRIPLE DIGITS!!!!" as you near 100 HRs is great, and the banter as you try to break Dimaggio's hitting streak are pretty good, but they always repeat this stuff, even after you've already set the record. One of my hitters is at 605 HRs right now, so I wonder what they recorded for breaking that all-time record. (Should be interesting, since they don't even mention sluggers like Bonds and McGwire by name.)

I dont even have 5 homers yet in rtts. I've been using the sparkplug perk but I just switched to slugger to see if I can send some soaring, looks like you take a hit in plate discipline and prob other stuff

I'm sure these changes are fine but I'm sick of this culture where people whine and bash things until they get what they want

For instance the destiny reddit. It's great for information and things but then you have all these marked suggestions to conform the game to their liking and it comes off as entitled and bratty as fuck

that just says they're fixing the bugs and empty promises and no attempt at allowing a non DD character so you can play multiple characters.

If they actually allow for reasonable progression it can keep a single player still enjoyable, but still leaves the show 20 a better game for RTTS

As a newcomer to the series, my first 30 minutes were a bit of a struggle. What do people use for batting and pitching controls?

I use pulse pitching and directional hitting and as of now. It should let you try everything before you select it.

Directional hitting just uses buttons and a combined stick motion (I don't even do the stick motion half the time) don't know if that penalizes me or not. Pulse pitching is nice because it feels like I can do things fast and get in a rhythm

You'll find a lot of different answers.

Personally my pitching is always great but my hitting lacks. I've gotten better with '21 in regards to hitting. There's a big group of people that will tell you to change the camera angle for hitting. I used Strike Zone 2 for a little while and just changed to Strike Zone 3 (either that or 1, I forget.) I use the buttons for hitting too, I forget the name they call it.

Pitching I use the button presses as well. Once again I forget the name but it's the basic "press to start, press again at the top, and press to try to stop it on a certain point".

One thing I would say, the practice mode this year is great. From the main menu go down and you'll see "practice." You can pick what pitches you want thrown and where. I probably went through 150 low sliders the other night because they are my biggest weakness for hitting.

Not having a newest gen console you're only missing out on the Stadium Creator I THINK. There's other minor stuff like you won't have 3D audio but the Stadium Creator is the only content. It's still fine on PS4 or XBone.

Fun fact I learned yesterday....

Showdowns (and maybe other modes) have a built in system to stop "save scumming."

I had a power flicker while I was mid game and when I came back I got a notice that I had "shut the game down wrong" when I booted up Showdown.

20 minutes later I started a new game and went to go to the bathroom and got sidetracked. Came back to bottom of the 1st inning and my first three batters had struck out. I menu closed the game and went back in and got hit with something saying basically that I won't get any more experience of affinity points because they thought I was cheating. If I wanted those things again I would need to start a new save.

I thought it was interesting.
