Starting to get a little nervous about the recovery. It'll be a big relief though. I've wanted to do this for several years, and soon it won't be hanging over me.

I'll be sure to avoid it. Luckily I can stay with my parents a bit so I can just focus on rest and pray I don't get a dry socket.

Tbh I'm also stressed because my research advisor told me she was leaving the university yesterday >_> so I'm not sure what's really bothering me here lol.

They cut mine out. Was put under. Shit hurt when the meds wore off. I didn't use straws but I got dry socket. That wasn't fun.

What does dry socket mean?

One of my wisdom teeth is coming in, but haven't had any issues with the others. Been thinking I would at least get this one out soon because it on/off kinda hurts like a b

A blot clot forms on the site where the tooth used to be. You want the blot clot to stay there, its your bodys way of healing the impacted area. If the clot itself gets dislodged, youre basically left with a hole in your gums thats prone to infection

How do you ensure it stays there?

Mine were pulled out with a crowbar.
Seriously - the odentologist had to put his knee on it to get that fucker out of my skull.

There are general recommendations you would get from your dentist/ surgeon, but there's a chance it can still happen if you do everything right. I had an infection that hurt quite a bit recently and didn't want to have to go through that again, so I went ahead and got them out.

My procedure apparently only took 15 minutes. I honestly didn't realize it started until the first tooth was already out lol.

I had a crown rot out and a titanium implant put in. I thought the remnant jaw was decaying, then the dentist who put the implant in told me that tooth roots aren't actually supposed to go sideways.

My caffeine headache is hurting more than my mouth. How many days until I can have a piping hot cup of bean water, I wonder

Im not too sure of the physics behind it (like, I dont get why using a straw dislodges it)
It's the suction. When you use a straw, you're pulling water up by changing the pressure in your mouth. When the pressure in your mouth lowers, a force is exerted on everything around it, including your socket. That pressure is what does it.

Online it says probably four or five days. Basically after the window where you risk dry sockets.

I pretty much prefer my coffee hot/ black now thanks to years of being too lazy to add anything.

But this is a good time to wean off anyway. I have an excuse to be lazy and I'm on heavy pain killers.

Got mine out like two years ago. Surgery was swell in that it was over instantly, but god the recovery was a pain in the ass. Took me about a week and a half until it stopped hurting and bleeding all the time. It's weird flushing food out of your gums, but you'll have to until your wounds heal. Don't worry if you're spitting blood longer than you think is normal.

how are you doing, TC?
Oh I'm doing fine honestly. With the pain killers I don't feel any pain at all, and my friends seem to think I'm recovering really fast. So I think I got lucky here. I did get a highly reviewed surgeon outside my hmo so maybe it was just a good job too. Thanks for asking!

That sucks. Luckily I'm not spitting any blood already.

I am glad your recovery is going well. Thats not something I ever plan on doing again. They for my top two when I was about 15 or so. Keep up with the post surgery instructions and you will be fine.

BlogFAQs: woke up today with little pain, not even at the 72 hour mark. Talking to my friends, it seems like I've had an exceptionally easy recovery.

Idk if it's just my mouth making it easy to get to the teeth or that I had an excellent surgeon. I did pay completely out of pocket for an oral surgeon I was referred to with great reviews instead of one covered by my HMO with shit reviews (insurance only covered 25% anyway). If this recovery is the benefit, then it was totally worth the extra $550 or so.

Right now I'm feeling like the guy in the "everything went better than expected" meme.
