Such a shame.

Jet Set Radio is an arcadey skate game. Pretty good. Launched on the Dreamcast so never quite caught on for obvious reasons.

Jet Set Radio Future then released on the original Xbox. It's a fantastic mix of skating and a platforming adventure. Again seemed to fly under the radar. The developer was then closed by Sega a couple of years later.

JSRF was BC on the much more successful 360 but it had severe emulation performance issues.

Eventually the original was relaunched on Steam, XBLA and PSN. Again it didn't quite seem to be a success. By this point the original is pretty hard to get into with a tough tutorial that asks the player to do a 50 trick combo and very demanding controls. Perhaps the sequel would have fared a bit better since it's significantly more accessible but we'll never know. Doesn't look like that's going to get a re-release soon as it has been nearly 10 years since the original JSR HD.

Since then Sega has rejected a couple of JSR pitches early in development and the franchise is dead outside of when Sega All-Stars games. Which is a total shame.

They actually lost the source code for Future so that explains why there's never been a rerelease.

Typical Sega.

Xbox could emulate it with their BC program but I'm guessing music licensing is another hurdle.

Sega spread out exclusives to all three companies. Shinobi on PS2 didn't really fare much better. Basically everything that wasn't Sonic flopped.

If JSRF future was on PS2 it would be held back by weak hardware as well.

Even whem I agree with you, you have to spout absolute nonsense. Why?

I had no idea that JSRF was a graphics and AI powerhouse that choked the massively powerful Xbox at the time and wouldn't have been possible on PS2....oh wait.....it wasn't and it wouldn't have.

It has a 480p resolution with a lot of visual effects, large scale levels and a butter smooth framerate. So nah. Plays and looks like a dream on Xbox. If it was easy to port to PS2 they would have done so.

I doubt it would have made that much of a difference anyway. 2002 era gamers were all about guns, blood, boobs and games being more 'mature'

If anything it would have done better on the GameCube than the PS2.

Because the PS2 was the weakest spec wise of that generation. Whether or not that would have made a difference to JSRF is a different story.

Came to post this.
Anyway, ya that was Sega doing what they do and at the top of their game.
It's a shame, but then again, the whole industry has changed tremendously.

You need to look up what revision it is and if you need to remove the clock capacitor. All revisions (1.0-1.5) other than the last revision(1.6) have a cheap clock capacitor that by now has started to leak. If it isn't removed and cleaned with rubbing alcohol, it will eat through the motherboard and kill the system.

Yep I got a Xbox bundle with Halo, JSRF and Sega GT for Christmas. Was mostly excited for Halo but ended up playing JSRF more for the first few weeks heh.

Will definitely keep an eye out for Bomb Rush Cyberfunk.

I got a 1.6 model (and this was verified by the weird scrambled screen issue has that is unique to this model and JSRF lol) so should be all good.

JGR Dreamcast is a top 5 game all time for me. It may be difficult to grasp the controls and camera in modern times, but when I first rented it in summer 2001, I knew I was playing something special. The style, presentation, DJ Professor Ks idiotic broadcasts, the soundtrack, there was nothing like it.
