2013 Sentra.

I became aware today of the class-action suit in the US that Nissan settled for replacing the transmission free of charge. I'm going to see if I can push that here.

The only issue of course is that I'm going to need to replace my car sooner rather than later because the cvt in this is essentially a ticking timebomb. I just can't really afford to do it now.

https://ca.topclassactions.com/lawsuit-settlements/lawsuit-news/quebec-consumers-file-cvt-transmission-class-action-lawsuit-against-nissan-canada/

Reading through the comments...I'm definitely fucked.

I can't believe companies would rather sit on their ass and do nothing while their brand name gets reduced to shit and they inevitably get slapped by the courts versus actually being proactive. Obviously all this guarantees is that I will never get another Nissan again.

They really fucked up the settlement in the US by not forcing a recall because that would have forced one in Canada as well. There's ultimately no point in just extending the warranty because the replacement unit is obviously identical with the exact same issues (see: people saying they've experienced multiple failures) which means the replacement is obviously going to inevitably prematurely fail as well.

Hahahahahaha the manager I spoke to straight up admitted they won't do anything unless the courts in Canada force them to.

I totally pissed her off when I called her out for exaggerating things to bolster her argument for why they won't help me (ex. she claimed it was "close to 5 years" out of warranty, it's not even 3 years out, her demeanor completely shifted as soon as I said that one), so I basically said that Nissan's had to settle a court case in the US for this and is currently facing the prospect of one in Canada (that it will absolutely lose) so they'd rather forcibly pay out more later than actually attempt to build goodwill and get ahead of it? The same company that has already had to extend powertrain warranties for premature cvt failure in older generations of vehicles? And she said "Yeah like you said it's pending so we'll only go by the warranty".

Those constant variable transmissions are not highly regarded. I knew a guy who won a murano at a hockey game and the transmission died a week later. Lol

It's a shame Nissan's transmissions are shit because I love their interiors. I would have gotten a Rouge instead of Rav4 if it wasn't for that.

I think Nissan's are literally in a class of their own. My understanding is that they don't actually make their own in-house whereas other companies do.

fucking Nissan (post 2000)

Feels like Renault and Ghosn sucked the soul out the company.

Yeah I went with it because the amount of room inside of it was nuts and I liked the layout. I tried a Civic and felt like I was gonna die lol

I don't think there's been nissan car with a good automatic transmission ever.

*gets memories of $20,000 GTR transmissions grenading themselves after 5-6 launch control uses

Nissan made interesting and amazing cars (back in the 90's). As far as future classic cars go, nissan has more than any other JDM manufacturers.

Damn, I have a 2011 Xxterra that has been great. I was going to pay it off in a few months and keep it as a back up vehicle. Was thinking about an Infiniti q60 also but I might just get a Acura TLX over it since Honda are way more reliable l.

I think they currently teamed up with some of the lowest rated financing people to help screw over people even more

Nah, I really hate how Lexus looks outside of the IS and RC. Even then those are kinda dated and underpowered for the price.

Transmission on my 2009 Chevy Impala died last year. The only indication something was wrong was a noticeable undercurrent of noise while driving near a concrete median with my window down. Had 153,000 km on it. I wasn't impressed. Sold it for $1,000, and bought a '14 Honda CRV with an extra 2-yr extended warranty on it. I've already had to replace the timing chain and the starter on it, which mercifully were covered by the warranty.
