As for why I didn't put it on before walking on, I don't know. But I didn't. Most places, I put it on while walking up, but I couldn't do that because my hands were full.

The mask is not just for stopping virus spread when you cough. People who are infected literally breathe it out into the air through their mouth and nose during normal breathing, which is why you need to have it on the whole time so you're not spreading that if you're an asymptomatic carrier. I guess if you were just gonna hold your breath the whole time that would be acceptable

This is the actual problem with our virus response, everybody adopted the very early recommendations for stopping the spread and then ignored any further research that showed spread was more from aerosols rather than droplets and DEFINITELY not from fomites. So now we have businesses still paying people to wipe shit down with alcohol wipes every ten minutes, which we know objectively does almost nothing, while not putting money into getting proper air ventilation/circulation

The flu certainly does. But that begs the question of what is an acceptable rate of infection for people to not need to wear masks? If mask wearing is a 100% harmless exercise, then shouldn't we just keep wearing masks as long as there is a greater than zero chance of getting someone else sick? It seems like it would be selfish to do otherwise.

Just literally trying to do my part and figure out how to move forward. If perpetual mask wearing can prevent deaths, then I think it's worth doing it. Especially since there is no real downside to wearing a mask.

But seriously, how hard is it to see that you're indoors and thus normal breathing spread around to people you're not even close to? Social distancing is 6 ft apart, outdoors without a mask or indoors with a mask. That's why you had to put it on right that second... because you were literally at the entrance to a building... like come on.

Im fully vaccinated and wear my mask everywhere. I find it uncomfortable because it makes it slightly harder to be heard / hear what others are saying; annoying to wash my masks after using them each day (Ive since learned to buy over a dozen masks so I can include them in my regular laundry load); difficult to read peoples facial cues, which is important in my job; many masks physically constrict my mouth and face as a whole due to tightness which hurts and has made it a process to shop for masks that are more comfortable; and having to remember to bring them with my everywhere I go, which I usually dont have a problem with but those random one offs where you realize you forgot to bring your mask after youve already arrived somewhere sucks.

Some of these complaints are less annoying than others, but taking them altogether makes it pretty uncomfortable. I really hope we dont have to wear them much longer.

So I just checked in with my sister in law down in Miami. Her and her husband caught it, though her entire house is multiple generations of Cubans packed in like sardines. I would bet any amount of money having too many people living in one house has a bigger impact than whether or not someone masks up.

I feel people are too harsh on the folks that at least have their mask on, even if its a bit under the nose. It's an effort, its meeting y'all halfway, and usually if you say something they'll pull it up and not put up a big fuss.
