Depends, they have done a lot of good.

in general they are very positive for workers. obviously there are exceptions but in general they are great unless you own a corporation and want to exploit your workers

I think they make sense in some industries for sure. But an office job that needs workers constantly delivering at a high level? Thatd never work. Would be a worse, legitimized, version of a good old boys club in that scenario.

In its purest idealized form, a union is just a peaceable assembly for redress of grievances.

All workers have the inherent right to organize to advocate for themselves, even if the public really really needs them. Employers always organize, so employees must have some ability to do so as well. And in large part, the public sector unions don't exist in the same form.
