Like I personally can't imagine anybody under the age of 18 working 40 hours a week. There's no way that's possible with school, assuming they want to get a normal amount of sleep. I'm sure there are children in sweatshops in poor countries who work that much or more, but I'm talking about voluntary labor. Does anybody just drop out of school and somehow manage to get a 9-5 before reaching age 18?

It's not at all unheard of, especially in the less-well-off areas, for people to do that at 16 here. It's very rare below that - it's pretty much illegal to do it at 14 or below; it's legal at 15 but you need special approval. From 16 you can basically do what you want in that regard.

In my state 16 and 17 year olds can work over 40 hours if they don't have school (so either in the summer or year round if they're dropouts)

If they're in school the max is 28 hours

Amish do that after they finish 8th grade, so they work full time at 14. Connections get them well paying jobs
