I'm pretty much vegetarian at home. The few times I eat out though, I'm too lazy and unwilling to not eat meat.

Instead of my main staple being rice,beans, and chicken, I just switched to rice, beans, lentil, tofu/TVP/seitan/etc.

I'm a very boring eater though, so that makes it easy

Veganism is a little far IMO, but everyone should probably cut back on their meat intake at least a bit.

I've massively reduced my meat consumption over the years and increased the portion of my diet that is veggies, but I don't see myself ever completely stopping meat. The furthest I think I could go is pescatarian, I cannot live without my sashimi.

Is it murder to kill a bug? Is it murder to kill rats? Etc

I already dont eat fast food as it is, no way in hell Im giving up grilling my own beef or digging into sardines, tuna, and salmon. Bashing dairy is misguided I might add. People pigeonholing Greek Yogurt, ricotta cheese, aged cheddar and heavy whipping cream with milkshakes and ice cream are unhinged as hell lol.

I never once said meat in general guy. Stop acting like a fucking dingus. I'm not the guy you were originally responding to. When I say "processed meats and dairy products" it should be implied that the dairy products I'm talking about are also processed since the topic or subject of the sentence is about processed foods. Yes, their diets are also very well balanced and portioned. Not a lot of processed foods, and good amount of the protein is fish. Not to mention they just live healthy lifestyles in general(to a certain extent, the smoking and working 70+ hours a week isn't much of a pro) where they have a lot of physical activity in their day to day life.

Er, how much meat do you think is in the average Japanese meal? Meat is more of a treat for them just based on how little they have of it. It's a smaller portion of their diet, and they (along with most of the world, to be fair) already eat like half as much as the average American.

We also don't have nearly as many of these weird meat zealots you see in this topic who think it's their duty to eat as much meat as possible because other people don't eat meat. You are misrepresenting how the average person eats here. That link I posted provides multiple measures of how much meat a person has in there diet and Japan is about 1/3 of America no matter how you slice it. You seem to assume every meal in Japan revolves around fish or meat and it doesn't. The main dish of your meal is considered rice or another grain based food (noodles, bread, etc.). Meat is one of many potential side dishes (and not required). If you think people just go around eating sushi and yakiniku all day you're mistaken.

Yes they eat 1/3 of meat Americans do. There is a huge difference between that and people eating no meat, dairy or eggs at all.

not to mention most sushi places also offer non-meat rolls, ramen and soups, sides that are not meat as well. same for yakiniku, last time I went meat was probably a quarter of what I ate.

Eating less meat is far different than what vegans do.
