Guns has been ingrained in americans for almost 300 years. In fact, I'd say it's a culture symbol that goes with the bald eagle.
Most gun owners are proud they have them.
There's a reason why presidents that are either democrat or republican haven't taken major measures to restrict or outright prohibit firearms.

I care more about people's lives than people being mad about their property being taken away.

It's like cigarettes, drugs, alcohol. Some people abuse them terribly but even those that don't will never do anything good with them.

Guns are like a security blanket for people too scared to live their lives normally. Personally, I can walk down the street without needing a gun to comfort me, but some people just have a lot of anxiety.

if you have so much anxiety you need a gun to walk down the street without shitting yourself, you also have way too much anxiety to have a deadly weapon on you at all times

they dont, most just realize theres other solutions than fucking over rights of individuals.

Most people have a gun to defend their homes with and don't carry a gun everywhere they go. Hope this helps.

There is a lot of assumptions here about Americans and why people own guns. This is coming from someone who is an American but currently lives in a country with very strict gun control laws.

First, I'm ok with nearly any law that seeks to find a solution. I'm a firm believer of that government should be what the people need it to be, and should have enough flexibility to adapt to the times. If a country I live in has strict gun control laws, then its a law I should respect. If a country (or state) values the right to bear arms, then its something I also respect.

But lets start with all these misconceptions here.

False. I've lived in multiple countries and visited several more. The amount of empathy the average person living in America has is just as much as the next person living in another country. Whether that is a good or bad thing is not the point.

The current country I live in outlaws guns for every person not in military or police. And its not because the people here have more empathy than the next. The people of this country is just as content to let a homeless man starve in the streets as the next American. And that remains true to the people of other countries that I lived in.

People do good with guns all the time. Its just that you purposely want to think that people never do.

Look, I get that guns bring more evil than good. Just like war bring more evil than good. Just as people with power are more susceptible to corruption than bringing about true justice. A world without guns and any type of weapons is an ideal world, and one we should all try to aspire toward. But understand we are living in today, and not tomorrow. A police officer still needs a gun. The military still needs firearms. And some citizens feel the need that they need a gun to protect their homes and themselves. As we try to eliminate crime and violence through proactive means, we also need to live in a world where these things exist today.

You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. Other than those who have chose the life of crime, very few (if any) people actually feel the need to carry a firearm to just traverse the city. And even if they did, it either means that crime has become out of control and they feel the need to protect themselves, or they live so far out that police protection is unreliable or unavailable. What you're esaying is basically telling a cop not to carry his security blanket of a gun to uphold the law. Or an MP who protects vital installations to not carry his gun because he is more than capable of handling any security breaches.

Anxiety is not hte issue here. Only in your world it is.

Don't take your cues from a person who doesn't know what they're talking about. Why don't you actually ask a legal gun owner if they have anxiety going from one place to another? Instead of just asking a random guy on the internet? there's plenty of online forums about guns. Use them to understand why they own one, instead of just entering an echo chamber that is CE about guns.
