it's the fastest easiest way to make 6 figures

-get a student loan, major in engineering

-graduate in 4 years

-get an internship while in school, which pays you $20/hour (more than you'll make in retail)

-work for 2 years, starting pay is like $70k/year, after the 2 years you'll have enough to pay off your loans and qualify to take the PE

-pass the PE and have your pay bumped up to 6 figures

only takes 6 years

idk why more people don't do this ?_?

Its so boring. I did it and made it to my EIT but I hated everything about it. I guess it didnt help being a woman in the field and not being taken seriously by anyone.

But my degree definitely helped me go a long way.

i forfeited that opportunity when i decided to work in engineering =)

A lot of people would hate to work in engineering and, sensibly, don't want to take out loans and spend years of their lives pursuing the wrong career for them

so spending those years working in retail is a better alternative...? i cant think of many careers where an engineering degree isn't a good spring board towards

do you know how long it would take to save up enough to pay for a college degree working min wage? those loans can be paid off in 2 years of working and meanwhile you'll make $20/hour as an intern...

it can be, but like you said an engineering degree can just be a spring board. you just gotta find a field of engineering that works for you. i'm in one that is heavily data analysis so i like it, as i work with data even in my free time (following sports, etc)

Why don't more people aspire to highly overpaid careers as TV celebrities instead of grinding their way through college to become engineers?

% chance of succeeding at that is significantly lower without the same clear cut path

Isn't there going to be a saturation point where there are more engineering grads than there are engineering jobs?

(Let's assume like crazy fools that there aren't plenty of people who simply aren't cut out to study or work in engineering.)

How is spending money on a 4 year degree faster than getting a job on the oil rigs right out of hs and making 100k immediately?

You suck at math for an engineer.

I worked for an engineering firm as a GIS analyst. Never doing that again.

That's why you better get in before it hits that stage

Because then you'd be stuck working on an oil rig, what kinda dumb fuck question is that lol
