There is practically zero learning curve to counter strike. Just shoot the other guys before they shoot you

It takes time getting used to the gun recoil. I recommend playing Arms Race to get a feel for the guns.

Much more new player friendly than older versions of CS. In terms of design. The community is likely shit to new players, though I hadn't played it enough to tell. But CS games tend to attract a particular crowd.
