I just learned that The Suez Canal Authority is not working through the night. Even if my dose of vaccine does not need to go through the canal, something needed for the process does. Items will not be produced at all and everything will become more expensive. We already have rationing.

Here is a retired captains take on it. The Captain of the container ship did not do his homework. The canal is Marlboro Country. You give the two navigators sent by the Canal Authority cartons of Marlboros and they let you pilot your ship through the canal. Otherwise they make you wish that you had.

Folk here think the canal is a mile deep and so any scuttled (or exploded) ship won't remain as half-submerged impassable obstacles.

2 Suez Canal Administration pilots were in charge on the bridge. A Taiwanese company leases the ship. The owner in Japan is accountable for the ship being stuck and must pay the salvage charge.

IMO the dumbest part of this is that although owner is accountable for salvage costs, the owner is not accountable for time lost. If you were the owner being forced to pay for what is not your fault and you did not have to pay for time lost, what would you do?

In plain English it is not a technical problem. It is not that the involved parties are less motivated or intelligent than I (or you). It is that their motives are to work within their interests.

The Egyptians government does not want to pay for it. The owner knows he has to pay for it but has no time constraint.

This is going to hurt every country in terms of assembly lines shut down and empty supermarket shelves. There is a UN Security Council. While this is their job, it may take them longer to agree on it than it will take the hired salvage company to dig out all of that sand with one excavator.

I just find the whole thing hilarious that they have all this amazing technology and they can build these canals but they cant figure out a fast way of getting the ship unstuck

They should just get a line of fat guys doing cannonballs on one side of the ship.

2 things you have to know.

#1 Goods that have to be shipped short distances still need containers and those containers are tied up by this incident
#2 Fish caught in Scotland are sent to Asia to be fileted and then back to Scotland.

Now Easter is added into the events making food, basic household tools like buckets and gorilla tape, and fleece hats hard to buy. Easter + covid + container shortage + hording + canal blockage. People have already started hording.
