Something cheap and neutral and hardy, so yes. Vegetable oil.

I use olive oil like a savage

Something with a high smoke point. I usually use avocado. Canola works great too

So many old wives tales being tossed around as fact ITT, especially the one about never using soap which was born from the old days when soap was commonly made with lye which does destroy the seasoning. Dish soap today does not have any lye and is therefore cast iron safe.

People on the cast iron subreddit swear by flaxseed

Honestly I'd just use whatever oil you have on hand. I use avacado oil just because it's what I always have on hand. Flaxseed and stuff like that work great but I wouldnt buy and store a bottle just to use for seasoning my cast iron.

Things like olive oil aren't preferable just because it has a lower smoke point but it'd still work. You just might get a little more smoke doing things at a very high heat like searing steaks.

Honestly we almost never season our pan. If you take care of it it will season itself as you cook in it. Last time I seasoned mine was because I fucked up and accidentally left it on a hot burner and burnt my seasoning off.

Flax oil has a super low burn temp this should never be used on anything warm.
