I can handle Jagras, Rathian, Rathalos, the Ya-kus, and "usually" Legiana.

But I always get stomped by some of the other guys, like Odogaron, Anjanath, and Diablos, no matter what weapons I use. I really am not looking forward to Elder Dragons and the like. Not after Nergigante.

I main Longsword, Gunlance, and Greatsword. Have a few variations of each of those for elemental weaknesses. Palico runs traps usually and has a paralysis weapon.

On the positive side, killing monsters with the Wiggler Head on is hilarious.

I played around with Hammer for a while but never really "got it" so i gave up on it.

Longsword I do best with, I like the mobility, but it seems really simple to use. I'd like Gunlance significantly more if it was a little faster, but I do love point-blank shelling everything and then harpooning them.

I have been upgrading my armour, mostly running Bone A right now, but it's fully upgraded. Trying to save enough Zorah parts for his armour set.

I don't wall bang, I suck at mounting.

Crap Guide to MHW tells me to play SnS but... it's called "Crap Guide." funny tho

Sounds like you have an issue with the hyper aggressive monsters. I would definitely recommend benching Greatsword against them, as GS only really shines when you are comfortable against a monster and know their patterns.

Your gunlance is probably your best bet against them, since those monsters don't have very many options that beat guarding, then you can switch to something else once you start to get a feel for their pattern and can just start dodge rolling their attacks. Just don't get too spoiled guarding everything because there are definitely monsters coming thay HARD punish guarders.

Also learn where weakpoints are, because if you are doing stuff like constantly hitting Diablos's legs you are going to be in for a long tedious hunt.

i do buy and craft potions/megapotions regularly.

I just sometimes get caught in combos that shred me because i don't always see them coming.

usually i do play with a friend and that helps because they're about the same skill level as me but we can coordinate relatively decently.

It's only when i'm trying to farm by myself that i run into problems.

I just want those Odogaron scythe-chuks

If you tried hammer and didn't get it, check out the hunting horn. I love giant, blunt weapons and the horn moveset did it for me. the buffs are just a bonus.

I understand the want for mobility. I main Switch Axe and use dual blades as my back-up, especially if going after some of the faster monsters.

that might be the case but it's too slow for me.

i like dodge roll better than side shuffle

at least i can just tank the hits instead of dodging, though apparently that might bite me in the ass later.

the best part about lance is the charge. specially in a half-pipe arena

I can give tips on gunlance at least. Make sure that you always have at least Evade Extender 2, so that mobility isn't a concern, and you can reposition for attacks easily. Long gunlance in particular is really good against Kirin, since you can shell just out of range of most of its attacks. Long shelling is pretty good for learning monsters, since you only need Artillery and Focus to maximize your DPS, and everything else is just QoL. If you have Iceborne and have access to Wyrmstake Blast, make sure that's on the monster at all times.

If you want more specific tips for GL, check out caoslayer on Youtube since he's basically the patron saint of gunlance.

currently i have a Zorah Magdaros GL and a Legiana GL. don't remember what shelling type they had.

my friend hates me because i have significantly better RNG than them and keep getting rare monster parts.

one half of MH is knowing the moveset of your current weapon and the other half is knowing the moveset of whatever you're fighting, then combining those to figure out where to dodge which attack and how to exploit the opening that follows

the only tip is to play more, the game gets easier (and better) with every weapon you learn and every monster you can dance around with your eyes closed

Hello.

Zorah's GL is awesome early HR. You can use it with charged shells with focus and do very good damage with Wyrmstake Blast.
It is simple to use also.
The guardian series also are great for HR.

After defeating the final boss of the campaign, you can upgrade it to long 4 and use it to start iceborne Master Rank.

After defeating the first monster of iceborne, you can build a long 5 with Anajah parts that you can get doing expeditions. This one is strong enough for killing elder dragons, after velkhana you can craft viper tobi long 6 gunlance and then Vaal gunlance.

Vaal gunlance is a top tier long gunlance, the only one comparable is a safi weapon that clearly wins because Zorah's Mastery property. Once you defeat fatalis you can go back to Vaal and use it with three healing augmentations.

That is the whole long gunlance upgrade path.

For Wide, use the defenders gunlance... and then in Master Rank use Long 6 gunlances because are better than Wide until you get access to Wide 6 gunlances. Your target is Raging Brachydios gunlance being the best in slot.

For normal, you get the Pink Rathian GL in HR, Great Jagras for early MR, Golden Rathian once you unlock the guiding lands, Safi gunlance and finally Fatalis GL.

Other than general stuff like hit his new spikes when they're white, and get ready for the divebomb I've got no real tips for Nergigante. He's aggressive which makes him a fun matchup for counterattack-y stuff like CB/Lance/LS, but the better you get the more of a wimp he is due to the spike gimmick being his biggest weakness.

Also I always found it a shame that AT Nergigante's theme was only used for that one quest and not in Iceborne.

I can tank or avoid most of his attacks. It's just sometimes I get greedy and leave myself open too long and he punishes that really hard. And then I don't have a chance to heal, and then get got on the next mistake.

lol me and my friend are dumb.

Nergigante investigation - 1 faint = instant over, can't clear it, 5/5 tries

Nergigante investigation - 3 faints allowed, 4 flawless runs in a row, with another 3 runs with no faints but lots of hits taken, 1 attempt left for later

we are the big dumbs

Affinity and Critical Boost are more important than raw-boosting skills, unless you're using shelling gunlance in which case neither are worth anything. If you're doing a lot of shelling with GL, the Artillery skill and eating for Felyne Bombardier are how you get your damage.

It's a matter of efficiency. The difference in raw between Attack Boost 7 and no Attack Boost will probably amount to roughly +5-7% damage. Critical hits are +25% damage, which jumps to +40% when you have Crit Boost 3. Iceborne nerfed Weakness Exploit to accommodate the clutch claw, but in terms of efficiency even the +30% is nice and if you can work on keeping 1 part tenderized as often as possible (usually the monster's head) you can get the full +50%. Weakness Exploit, Critical Boost, Critical Eye, and Health Boost (+50 health is by far the best defensive skill in World) are 4 amazing skills. Pre-ED pieces might be stuff like Rathalos Mail b (Weakness Exploit x2, lvl. 1 slot) or the Odogaron Coil b (Crit Eye x2, lvl. 2 slot), but it can be difficult to fit these kinds of skills in (particularly Crit Boost) before you get access to ED materials. If you can handle the Code: Red Event with Teostra, the Dante head and feet are pretty nice options as well. Just do the best you can to pump up that affinity and get what Critical Boost you can.
