Because I have a filter on it. You shouldn't use 20 year old studies in your arguments because it makes your "Dumbass" tag fit you.

When I lived in Phoenix and Dallas I used mine. I would soak/pre wash my stuff though before loading.

Now that I have my own house with water bill I just hand wash everything.

As a single guy with no roommates, using a dishwasher would be counterproductive. It's a waste of water, time and electricity. Also, I'm not lazy.
You do you but lets not pretend that dishwashers arent a superior method of cleaning dishes. Using one over hand washing doesnt mean youre a germaphobe or lazy.

We've never had one.

I remember my mom saying that she once as a kid asked her mother if they could get a dishwasher, and she responded by saying that she had two of them already, referring to my mom and my aunt.

Dishwashers work by using high-pressure water jets. If you leave food on your dishes, it gets thrown around at high speeds. That can lead to etching on your dishes. I always pre-rinse even if the dishwasher has a filter and a pre-wash cycle.

That being said, studies have shown that most modern dishwashers clean a load of dishes with less water than doing the same number by hand.

I swear to god half the people in this topic must have a cheap knockoff dishwasher from the 80s, its the only way they can hold such nonsense opinions about the efficacy of the dishwashers of the last two or three decades.

Dishwashers are trash. You have to do 99% of the washing because dishwashers are unable to remove most solid food so you're better off just doing the rest yourself.

I would've thought this too but ours cleans them perfectly. A bowl can have tons of food residue left in it but comes out completely clean.

I could see using it if you've got 4 or 5 people in your house.

For just me why would I bother?

I think I used my dishwasher like 6 times when I first got one and not once since.

but where does that food residue go.... it doesn't just vanish.

I rinse dishes and remove stuck on stuff before loading in the dishwasher. I think of the dishwasher as a sterilizing machine.

Down the drain or into the filter, it cycles the water multiple times per program.

I think most people who don't use dishwashers fall into a couple categories:
  1. Own a crappy dishwasher
  2. Didn't grow up using one so they don't understand the benefits of a dishwasher / can't afford one / believe falsehoods about the efficiency of one
  3. Are single / own very few dishes so it'd never fill up

Dishwashers are superior overall though

Do you check everyones dishwater?

Youre obviously spose to rinse dishes before using the dishwater. So what you see as a dishrack may just be the person prepping the next load.

There have been studies showing rinsing anything but huge caked on chunks is a waste of water, time, and effort.

Parents that feel theyre teaching their kids a lesson by rinsing or hand washing before putting them in the dishwasher are just costing themselves.

I use to be a big rinsed until I found out its a waste and moved to a location with ridiculously high water bills.

Yes? It makes cleaning so much easier. I know I'm not supposed to put pots and pans in there, but I do anyways. A gentle cycle for 55 minutes cleans literally everything off of my dishes for the most part. I've had some times when stuff still sticks to the cutlery.

Word of advice to everyone though, do not put can openers in the dishwasher. It dulls the hell out of them.
